Hah, looks like I beat Daniel to the punch.
Let me first start off by saying I made a huge mistake of going without any sunscreen. My arms are burnt to a crisp and hurt like a bitch. Learned my lesson though. Onto the action....
When I first got there I ran around all the practice courts to get my bearings and to figure out exactly where everything was. The first person I saw was Emilie Loit. She was warming up by bouncing a ball to another french player whom I dont know. I actually realized I dont know a lot of women players
So, decided to let her be and move on.
On the opposite court I caught Max Mirnyi practicing with another guy (who I didnt recognize). Max was hitting his serve and its about as big as he is. He looked really good and was getting some nice kick off of them.
Walked around the grounds some more and took pictures of some of the women playing...I dont know who half of them were. Then I came across Dokic hitting with another girl. Took some shots of her. She was striking the ball fairly well, but it just seemed like she was just practicing on how to hit hard.
Then I stumbled across Gimelstob practicing. He is another giant. He was upset with how he was hitting but I didnt really stay too long to see what he was speaking about. Then saw Escude....wow, that man can really wail on the ball. Looked like his groundies were pretty good, so we will see how he does in the tourney. Next saw Hrbaty...I was gonna get a picture with him but he was in the middle of some stretching routine and didnt want to bother him.
Left his court and ran across Younes and his coach standing in the middle of the grounds. I got a picture with him. Hes a funny funny guy.
Walked some more, saw Stephanie Foretz and another french girl. Then I ended up walking behind Denisa Chaldkova. She has this awful haircut where its a buzzcut (pretty girl though). I also saw Taylor Dent who is extremely nice. I got a picture with him and congratulated him on his win at Memphis....very cordial.
Lets see, trying to remember who I actually stayed and watch. Oh yeah Gambill was practicing with Paradorn and had drawn a slight crowd. Jonas was also on the same court. Gambill was hitting ok, but it looked like Paradorn was still struggling a little. Im hoping he can find some form here.
Saw Goran, Enquist, and Krajicek on the same court. They were hitting around. Youzhny was out practicing as well. I stayed and watch Myskina hit with her coach. It didnt look like she was hitting it as hard as the other girls, but maybe her coach was instructing her not to. She looked very good though.
Hantuchova and I think Dementieva were practicing on the grandstand. Hantuchova wasnt really hitting all that well. Missing some easy shots and was getting mad at herself. The girl is skinny....and tall. This couple by me kept asking me who she was and where she was from and if she could beat the Williams sisters. I was like, fools stop pestering me with these lame questions and go buy yourself a fact book.
After they finished waked outside and saw Dokic practicing again with some guy. Her groundstrokes were definitely good, but every time the guy would drop shot I would just cringe because Jelena's forward movement looked pretty bad. They worked some volleys which she appeared to be ok on. Oh she looked to be practicing approach shots, which were awful. None would go in and when they did she shouldnt be trying to come in on them. The guy would just end up passing her. I waited for her to finish practicing and got a picture with her. She seems like a spoiled brat, but perhaps it was just a bad practice.
Ran around some more, and my batter died in my camera after I got a picture of Chanda, so I decided to leave. I made one last go around and saw Schalken hitting with his coach, and Myskina doing some more trainging.
That was all I did for today. Ill get some pictures up when I get out of the shower. I think I have one of Shenay Perry since a lot of peopel here like her.
