Help needed

Sorry to spoil your German forum but I'd like to ask you something.

I will be landing in Frankfurt International airport next Thursday at 7pm and I need to get to Kassel that evening. Do you know how to get there either by train or bus? Rail website seems a bit confusing to me.

Thanks for yor help! Of course I will delete this thread in a while

Re: Help needed

The easiest/most affordable way should be to take the S-Bahn (local commuter train) from Frankfurt Airport to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof/Central Railway Station, then take a regional train (RE / Regional-Express) from there to Kassel.

The website is probably trying to get you to take ICE (high speed train). That's probably a bit faster, but likely also quite a bit more expensive.

Thanks, Katja!

Do you think there will be trains that late from Central Train Station to Kassel? Do you know the link for the Frankfurt Central St to Kassel regional trains timetable?

There are quite some options for you around 9PM.

The last one that goes to Kassel directly is leaving Frankfurt Central at 21:22, you should be able to make that comfortably if your plane is somewhat on time (S-Bahn from the airport to Frankfurt Central takes about 10 minutes and leaves every 15 minutes).

Something you have to be careful with are the "special deals" ("Sparangebote" in German) because they are often bound to one train/connection.

Are you getting picked up in Kassel?

I think the one that would suit you would be this one:

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/que...lPrintview=yes

It's from the Airport to the Frankfourt Central Station and from there, directly to Kassel with the RE.
Start's at 9.02PM, so should be suitable for you, if your flight is in time.

Re: Help needed

^^If you book that you save some money by locking yourself to that exact connection, but you're screwed if your Intercity that takes you from the airport to Frankfurt Central is just a little bit late.

So if I finally decide to take that one that leaves at 21:22 from FRA central and my plane is on time, can I take the connecting train at the airport earlier than 21:02 so I don't have to hurry in a station I have never been before? I mean, if I can take a train at the airport leaving at 19:45 I'd rather take that one instead of sitting at the airport waiting for the 21:02 train. I'd be at the station before 8 and I can check calmly which platform I have to go, I can grab something to eat etc...

Yes, my friends will pick me up in Kassel! Hopefully we are gonna have some cool weather as Barcelona is a frying pan atm and it has been like that for the last 2 weeks

Yepp, exactly. The S-Bahn leaves every 15 minutes, so you just collect your luggage and walk to the train station and take the next one that goes to Frankfurt Central.

You can buy a ticket for that at the ticket machines that are at the airport train station.

In my opinion it's the best option to do it like that.

Are you arriving at Terminal 1 (Star Alliance)? If yes, then the train station for this connection is right under the terminal. For Poseidon's connection you would have to go to the intercity train station (yes, Frankfurt airport has 2 separate train stations ) that is quite a bit outside of the central airport.

Cool. Yes, I'm flying Lufthansa so I'll be landing at Terminal 1. So I cannot buy online this 19€ sparangebote and jump into any earlier train from the airport to the central station?

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/que...lPrintview=yes

Do I have to stick to this precise train at 21:02? If not how much more it would be the price for separate trains bought on the day? Or alternatively, is there any sparangebote for the direct train trip from central Frankfurt to Kassel to buy online and then I'll buy separately the airport train on Thursday.

Thanks so much for your help everybody!

Re: Help needed

Now that you mention it, that's actually probably the smartest thing to do.

What should work is to buy the Sparangebot with the 21:02 and then seperately buy a ticket for an S-Bahn from the airport to Frankfurt Central or, depending on your charme, you could also just go for it and play the "I'm a tourist!" card if someone checks your ticket in the S-Bahn - you risk a fine of 40 bucks though . But effectively you're "downgrading" to a worse trian by taking the S-Bahn instead of an Intercity, so they might be more willing to let that go. Ticket from the airport to Frankfurt Central is < 5€.

That's probably the cheapest way to do it.

Re: Help needed

Thanks Katja and everyone!!

Just one last thing. I've found a ticket called Hessenticket which costs 32€ and lets up to 5 people to travel free within the Hessen region for the day. I mean, this sounds too good to be true. As we are 2 people travelling I guess this ticket is worthy. Does anyone knows something about this ticket? Apparently you can only buy it once you arrive there in the ticket machine but I guess since we arrive kinda late and the information office will be closed at the airport we will try to manage by ourselves. I could only find this in English: http://www.bahn.com/i/view/USA/en/pr...e-ticket.shtml

Any further help will be much appreciated
