Yes! Thanks for these, and all other others. :yeah:
Annika will play Svitolina next up. This might suit her better, as there will be less pressure than if she were playing Putintseva. Also, I don't think my blood pressure could have coped with Annika v. Ms. Evil Incarnate.
Annika first up on Court 7 tomorrow. Actually, it's the only match on that court according the current schedule for tomorrow, although there will probably be some doubles matches added.
Pushtolina annoys me. Crowd can't stand her either.
Annika a bit too erratic at the moment, battling to hold serve.
She just can't get out of this game..
Woah. Saves BP with a FH winner off of a horrible bounce. That was an almost an overhead.
Annika holds. 1-1*
Man these are punishing rallies. BP for Annika...
FH DTL Winner to break. *2-1
GP...Moonballtolina misses and it's 3-1*
Annika lost her aggression in the last 2 games, now just pushing back. *3-2
Ouch. This last 2 games were really bad. Pushing and errors. Come on, you were so good. 3-3*
As good as it was in the 2nd set and beginning of the 3rd, as bad it is now. *3-4
- There were a lot of German supporters. This sort of strong partisan support is very common on the outside courts.
- Annika was the underdog, which would have made the neutral supporters more likely to cheer for her, and against Svitolina.
- Annika is so well behaved that she puts most other players to shame. Svitolina is no angel, although she is very far from being the worst player on the WTA tour.
Oh, and looking at the MP again: Annika should have followed her drop-shot immediately, but instead she waited for some reason before running in. Even as fast as she is, she can't afford to do that.
She had it in her hands and lost it because of her actions. She should take that as a positive from here, she didn't get outplayed at all.
Svitolina really is an unbearable person. No wonder the crowd didn't really get into her match against Putintseva, couldn't decide who to root against.
Damn. I could only watch it from about 1-1 in the third set. It seemed very tense at times. Annika must have pressed much more to judge by the number of UEs.
82% 1st serve seems very good, but she still only won just over half of them. Svitolina did much better on her 2nd serve, which seems to have been one of the keys to the match.
So near and yet so far, like a number of matches this year. But at least she will leave this tournament in lot better state than she started it.
A very good RG from her, and went down in a match in which she had a legitimate shot at winning. Not too bad, really. But I would have really liked to see her win this one.
unlucky defeat, also not a big fan of Svitolina here, I do not see anything special in her game, however I could not watch it today, Annika with more winners, that´s good, she has to become more aggressive but has to find the right mix between being aggressive and "pushing", wasted a 31 lead in 3rd set today as well, I think...
3rd round is still a great result, hope that her results slowly will become better again!
