OZ seeds are pretty much set (barring injury)

Last year, Venus Williams gained 198 points for winning Gold Coast, and she beat Henin in the process. No top ten players are there this year. So 200 points is about the max anyone can get there. Aukland gives less. Soooooo...

The top eight are set. So it's no surprise none of them are playing.
Code:
pre wk2 End wk 1
rk pnts = 2002 - 2002
-- ---- - ---- - ---- -- ---------
01 6080 = 6080 - 0000 01 Serena
02 4942 = 5140 - 198 02 Venus

03 3796 = 3796 - 0000 03 Jenn
04 3557 = 3557 - 0000 04 Kim

05 31__ = 3218 - ___ 05 JH2
06 2952 = 2952 - 0000 06 Seles
07 2668 = 2668 - 0000 07 Hantuchova
08 1908 = 1908 - 0000 08 Myskina

   (Schnyder can't catch Myskina.)

09 1795 = 1795 - 0000 12 Davenport
10 1752 = 1752 - 0000 13 Rubin
11 1701 = 1701 - 0000 14 Maleeva
12 1626 = 1644 - 0018 15 Schnyder Gold Coast

The gain in this for Patty is staying seeded 9-12.
No Williams Sisters in the 4th round. I think.
But since Farina Elia, Stevenson and Dementieva
are all not playing, Patty's seed was safe anyway.
She'll have to win to get the #9 seed.

13 1596 = 1596 - 0000 17 Farina Elia
14 1444 = 1444 - 0000 18 Stevenson
15 1426 = 1426 - 0000 19 Dementieva
16 1387 = 1616 - 0129 16 Pistolesi Aukland

Being seeded #16 instead of #17 at OZ has value.
Pistolesi needs to hold off Dechy.
Daniilidou has an outside chance at the #16 seed too.

17 1295 = 1295 - 0000 20 Dechy Gold Coast
18 1220 = 1220 - 0000 21 Coetzer
19 1193 = 1193 - 0000 22 Daniilidou Aukland
20 1125 = 1173 - 0048 24 Sugiyama Gold Coast
21 1122 = 1152 - 0030 25 Kremer Aukland
22 1137 = 1137 - 0000 26 Bovina Gold Coast
23 1091 = 1091 - 0000 27 Suarez Aukland
24 1079 = 1177 - 0098 23 Panova Aukland

25 1056 = 1056 - 0000 28 Tanasugarn
26 1049 = 1049 - 0000 29 Raymond
27 1026 = 1046 - 0020 30 Shaughnessy Gold Coast
28 1012 = 1016 - 0004 31 Fernandez Aukland
29 1007 = 1007 - 0000 32 Majoli Gold Coast
30 978 = 978 - 0000 33 Husarova Aukland
31 967 = 967 - 0000 34 Martinez Aukland
32 935 = 945 - 0000 36 Srebotnik Aukland
-- ---- - ---- - ---- -- ----------- ------------
Anyone within 200 points of Srebotnik has a
mathematical chance of gaining an OZ seed.
-- ---- - ---- - ---- -- ----------- ------------
33 891 = 960 - 0069 35 Kournikova
34 864 = 939 - 0075 37 Bedanova
35 851 = 871 - 0020 39 Frazier
36 860 = 860 - 0000 40 Schett Gold Coast
37 847 = 847 - 0000 41 Schiavone Gold Coast
38 819 = 843 - 0024 42 Likhovtseva Aukland
39 818 = 818 - 0000 43 Kuznetsova

NOTE: 25-32 may play 1-8 in the 3rd round.
If so, that explains why all but 3 of the
      seeds 17-32 are playing.
We won't know the ORDER of seeds 17-32 til
      after Gold Coast/Aukland

QUESTION: Kournikova and Bedanova are both giving
up a shot at an OZ seed. They may know
about players who are on the verge of
withdrawing though. I notice that the
would-be OZ seeds 27-32 are all playing.

Proud to be an American
Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.
