(1/wc)Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) v Q
Jennifer Elie (USA) v (SR)Anhelina Kalinina (UKR)
(wc)Ajla Tomljanovic (CRO) v (wc)Victoria Duval (USA)
(8)Alla Kudryavtseva (RUS) v Q
2 wins in a row! This one even in straight sets! Onto the QFs.
The draw is opening up a bit for her too as Townsend and Tomljanovic have already lost. Genie's next match will be vs. either (WC) Victoria Duval or (Q) Kaitlyn Christian, both of whom have rankings in the 700+ range. Further, their match is the last one today so Genie would be more rested, presumably.
^^ She's got nothing going with her game and it all starts with the inability to serve. She's completely lost it compared to her serve in 2014 and she doesn't appear to be injured in any way.
It's shocking that there is no improvement to any part of her game since the loss in Mexico before Indian Wells. Her couple of wins this week only came from late set faltering from her much lower ranked opponents.
The tennis skill level she had today, won't be winning another match in the WTA anytime soon.
Especially if she expects the superstar treatment, the appearance fees and the main stadium slots. It would be a bit hypocritical to enjoy the fine things in life (that she earned the hard way) but to ask people to never discuss the reason she got there.
I still believe that getting treated as the journeywoman that she sadly became over time would be the best thing that could happen to her. A true wake-up call that she desperately needs right now.
Come on that's not true When the media/people talks about 2014 it is obviously not to discuss her journey but to compare her level play and result. No wonder she doesn't want to talk about it after every loss.
The Canadian #1 is not the #1 anymore.
After watching Abanda and Andreescu this week-end, it looks like they would slay Genie by a similar scoreline. On top of that Sebov and Dabrowski are probably playing better these days. With big server Carson Branstine entering the Top 10 Juniors recently, don't be surprised if Genie sinks out of the Top 5 Canadians pretty soon (considering actual level of play, not a meaningless ranking).
Genie is either in a deep depression, or she doesn't like tennis and the tour anymore. She acts more and more like Rebecca Marino. That's scary.
Well, after the train wreck in singles, Flipkens and Genie actually won their R1 doubles in Istanbul.
They then promptly defaulted their next match in the QF within minutes of coming off the court.
Genie had already collected her appearance fee and satisfied her contract with Koza, so perhaps wanted to skip town with the Sharapova storm breaking?
upset at all? my guess is no. but when you wander around in here, spouting off, all it does is reveal your own worst fears...that seemingly inconsequential Genie will embarrass you somehow. the solution is simple...buzz off and go play with your sugar-pals.
RU90, I like your sentiment. maybe someday a few more fans will decide to chime in too.
