She is impressive in this match too. But Eranni's consistent defense is too much for Belinda at this point. I'm following her for quite sometime and I was impressed everytime. She is not only talented, she is also hungry for glory.

Apparently not. I'd be surprised if Errani wins this one, honestly. Bencic is on fire!

Okay, I take back what I've said. Bencic is capable of dealing with Errani's defense.

I am not a specialist to see subtle differences so to me is like watching Simona right now.

Simona should hurry and win that GS already, because Bencic will be a strong contender in no time.

Given proper mental preparation, I think she should be beating Aga most times and she should have the upper hand over Domi on more occasions than not.
I really don't think she does relax when reaching a particular goal. She's happy she achieved it, but she always wants to go further. Last year, at this time, Simona simply wanted to win a title after coming up short 3 previous times. And she wound up winning 6. She made the QF of the AO this year without a coach. Yes, it was good result, but she had no coach to help her mentally relax for such a big occasion. And she came out tight, and Domi was on fire and blitzed her. That was the difference. She wasn't simply happy just getting to the IW SF. She wanted to win, but she came out with the wrong game plan. She played Aggie's game instead of her own game because she didn't want to miss, and Aggie took advantage. She's not happy with losing, but that doesn't mean that her results at 2 of the biggest events of the year were disappointing, and she knows it and appreciates that fact. She knows she can keep improving, and her ultimate goal is to win a GS.

She enjoys the process. And maybe she sets low goals for herself to not put herself under pressure and just let her play do the talking. Last year, after she got to #11. Her goal was simply to stay in the top 20. She didn't talk about breaking the top 10 or being part of the top 5. With her play so far this year, her ranking took care of itself. And even after getting to #5, the highest rank ever for a Romanian, she's very conscious about the fact that she's not the greatest Romanian. Her manager, Virginia Ruzici, won a GS which makes her the best Romanian woman of all time. Simo has said winning a GS is her main goal for her career, not being the highest-ranked Romanian.

She surprised me, I knew she was good, but after getting broken back in the first set I've never thought she could actually win. Errani's defense is so irritating, but Belinda dealt with it perfectly. The thing is that not only she knows to find angles so well, she is intelligent and has a powerful mentality. Working with Martina's mother as a young player is incredibly helpful.

Meh , i`ve seen the game , and i`m not taking away her glory , she beat Errani, and we all know what it means. She did great against her , and she plays really well for her age considering .. , but to think that Simona should be worried with her , i just can`t ( not yet ). If she can continue like this and get some victories from top 10 players ( Errani is 11 for this week, and on a personal note Errani now looks like top 30 to me ) like Simona did , i`ll started beeing worried , but not just yet.

She has potential and probably deserve some hype but i must wait for some impressive results in the future to consider her a contender for Simona.

Re: Simona Halep Cheering thread - volume 2

UCLA, I hope you're right. Maybe Bencic was in a grace state last night, but I'm sure her performance wasn't accidental at all. It took Simona a lot of time after winning RG as a junior to confirm her potential into the senior pro circuit. Bencic is already doing it in her first WTA season.
Agree with you on Errani being a shadow of her 2012 self nowadays, but she can still be all sorts of impressive on clay, but those last two sets last night Bencic ridiculously outpowered & outsmarted her.

I hope I won't be quoting you anytime soon along with the "told you so" note

Re: Simona Halep Cheering thread - volume 2

One more thing: when I said Simona should hurry and win that GS already, I wasn't only referring to Bencic, but also to the other newcomers who are on fire. For the first time in the last 3 years or so I really feel the change of guard in women's tennis. Serena, Na Li, Jankovic, Sharapova, Pennetta they will all be very soon replaced by the likes of Bouchard, Bencic, Cepelova, Siniakova, Svitolina and Konjuh.

Re: Simona Halep Cheering thread - volume 2

Well , i like Bencic so u`re not gonna upset me if that happens ( but keep in mind , she must do better than Simona.) .

If u are refering at Simona in the first year of pro circuit senior, u`re right , she`s doing really well, but i must say this if u don`t mind

U must remind yourself the problems that Simona had with some injuries ,back pains, surgery after.

I wait for Bencic to do some damage in the WTA tour from now on, but not lethal dmg in top 10 ( just a feeling for 2014 ) but lets see her in this tournament for now

Anyway i cheer for her and i hope she wins the tournament but lets see if she has it in her until the end.

Just for u to know , i agree what u are saying , just the "contender" part i can`t accept for now. She must prove something more in 2014 to really accept her as a contender.

Re: Simona Halep Cheering thread - volume 2

There are many players who are or will be tough rivals for Simona next years not only Bencic .. some of them younger than her and some little older
players like Radwanska , Cibulkova , Azarenka , Kvitova , Bouchard and may be Bencic , Keys , Svitolina .. all of them would be rivals for Simona among most or even all of her career years ..

If simona want to win a GS she should be ready for great fights and work among the years .. and i think Simona's late breakthrough or other player early one doesn't mean she will necessarily have a less success in her career

About Bencic .. She seems played impressive match and she have great potential ( although i don't think winning Errani now is a big deal , i think she is one of the easiest opponents in top 30 or even more and she is always big opportunity to many players to play impressive matches but still great stuff for 17 years player ) .. but i think we need more from her to say she began her breakthrough and became a real rival in the tour

You are not very far from being right. Personal i said before in Errani-Bencic poll, that Errani doesn't have weapons to trouble Belinda and even after she loose her first set i wasn't very worried, because i knew that if she find her rhythm she will win in 3 sets.

Back to our love. I miss her play. I can not wait for the Fed Cup to start to see her play.

It's too soon to speak about this . This week though , I've seen in Cepelova, a little resemblance to Simona , than in Bencic.

In the meantime , the TENNIS ANTI-DOPING PROGRAMME , TESTING SUMMARY 2013 has been published. Simona has been tested 4-6 times in-competition and 1-3 times out-of-competition. You can see a lot of players there. http://www.itftennis.com/media/174149/174149.pdf
