Harrison d. Silva
Mamalat d. Chi
Steffensen d. Elbaba

I think Van Nguyen beat McPhillips (who is such a joke) but I'm not entirely sure.

QF

(7)Chanelle Van Nguyen (USA) d. (1)Kyle McPhillips (USA) 64 61
(6)Catherine Harrison (USA) d. Eden Silva (GBR) 64 61
Anna Mamalat (USA) d. (5)Lynn Chi (USA) 60 61
(8)Katrine Isabel Steffensen (USA) d. (2)Julia Elbaba (USA) 75 61

I was watching from far away but it seems like Chanelle was winning most of the points, glad to see she pulled it out.

Some random observations from the week:

- Denise Starr and Blair Shankle are bitches. They were so rude and arrogant when they just aren't that good to begin with.
- Catherine Harrison, Anna Mamalat, and Katrine Steffensen are great girls. Very down to earth and approachable and damn good tennis players as well.
- Chanelle Van Nguyen doesn't know how to put an overgrip on her racquet. Starr had to do it for her. Kinda pathetic, but whatever. She seems like a pretty good girl, but she and Kyle McPhillips have been giving off an attitude like they are too good to interact with the other girls. Kyle moreso than Chanelle, but I heard a couple of the girls talking about it.
- Kyle McPhillips is completely unimpressive. She will definitely NOT make it on the pro tour and I don't think college will bring her much success either. She also seems like a very...weird girl. I can't quite put my finger on it, but she just doesn't seem like she is 100% there.

Been predicting Catherine Harrison to win the title from day one but Mamalat could do it too...should be an interesting finish to the tournament.

Did you see Eden Silva play? If so, what did you think?

I did. She is pretty solid, but lacks anything resembling a weapon. It's not like she pushes or anything, she just can't really hurt her opponents. I thought it was interesting that her dad told me she had never played on grass before. Nice girl, very cute too.

SF

(7)Chanelle Van Nguyen (USA) d. (6)Catherine Harrison (USA) 64 76(6)
Anna Mamalat (USA) d. (8)Katrine Isabel Steffensen (USA) 60 63

The Van Nguyen/Harrison match was SO intense. Chanelle showed a lot of heart because Catherine is the better player, to me. She just made too many wrong decisions as far as shot selection goes. Fun match to watch though, both girls should do well in college.

Mamalat has just been rolling everyone this week. I've barely seen her miss a ball...she should be too tough for Chanelle. But Chanelle might be motivated to grab both titles since she won the doubles yesterday with Kyle McPhillips. Unfortunately it's been in Philly all morning so the final will either be postponed or moved indoors.

Re: International Grass Court Championships,USA,G4

Of course I saw Kozlov. He was the talk of the tournament.

Intelligent and poised WELL beyond his years. He doesn't do anything flashy. Doesn't have much of a serve, very little power, moves pretty averagely (that all being said, he's only 13. I'm sure he can develop those things). He reminds me of a young Martina Hingis, which is why I love his game so much. He knows exactly which shots to play at which moments and his touch is impeccable. Almost every single one of his drop shots is a winner, and he employs them pretty frequently.

His attitude is very bratty and childish, but again he's 13. I'm sure it's tough playing against a bunch of 18 year olds who want nothing more than to beat you into the ground and put you in your place. If he cleans up his attitude I think he will be a successful pro player. He has plenty of time to add to his game, which he will have to do if he wants to succeed beyond juniors. Excited to follow his progress over the next several years.

And in case anyone was wondering:

F

Anna Mamalat (USA) d. (7)Chanelle Van Nguyen (USA) 64 63

Anna defended her title. She was far and away the best player this week. I didn't get to see much of the final unfortunately because my boss (the tournament director) sent me elsewhere for the day but this was very much expected.

Kyle is actually a very nice girl. Lots of fun and doesn't take herself too seriously.

Re: International Grass Court Championships,USA,G4

Harrison is sick. She can hit just about any shot there is. She's amazing. Definitely the better player. I noticed she was slipping around a lot during her match. Obviously not comfortable yet on grass. I love to watch her play. A big fan and she seems like such a nice girl off the court too. Very relaxed and seems to be well liked by everyone.
