Eggy, has Maria Sharapova ever played a team competition for Russia? Did you tell "Sharky" about this board? Maria has certainly had a good start to her 18u career. But will her 5'8" and 105 pound body be able to withstand much bigger and stronger oppnents? The ITF Juniors website lists Maria as 5'8" and 105 pounds. I am pleased to see that she can immediately compete with the best 18u players in the world. I'm so happy Nick Bollettieri has taken the wrapping paper off Maria and let her play the 18's. Maria is a gift to the tennis world.

She hasn't yet but I hope she does as those Team Events can seriously help.

The best players of that age group are involved.

Maria jumped in the rankings from 221 to 116 Good going, girl!

She is one of 5 youngest players in the top 200 (together with Olga Puchkova, Kirilenko Maria, Safarova Lucie and Gajdosova Jarmila: all born in 1987), but Maria played only 3 tournaments whereas all other girls at least 9.

Cat in the Hat, I am so happy too that Maria is finally playing in the ITF juniors! We have been waiting for this in a while! It's about time!

Maria is nowhere but up in the rankings! She sits at no. 116! Whooo HOOO! I am loving every min of it! Can't wait for for a few big Jr events coming up in a few months such as Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl.

I very much doubt Maria will be playing in Australian Open Jr in January since lot of good jr players skip this Jr Grand Slam. Travelling very far is tough for Jr players. Dunno why! Maybe she will surprise us!

I am so disappointed that Maria lost to Barbora Strycova. But hey, at least she hasn't lost to unknown Jr players yet! Very positive! Only lost to two Seed #1 players, so far! That's damn good for Maria to start in her Jr career.

Hello Sharky(SharapovaFan), I'm glad you found this board. It's a good alternative to the Sanex WTA message board, which is still in a coma! I doubt Maria will make the trip to Australia to play the Junior Australian Open. That's an awful long way to go to play the juniors. I don't think Anna K. went to Australia until she played the main draw as a 15 year old in 1997. Does Maria play doubles? I've never seen her in a doubles draw.

P.S. - Sharky, you should invite people to the Maria Sharapova Zone message board. Udachi Maria!

im so dissapointed that maria is better than olga. nothing against maria, but olga!!!! yes, does maria play doubles? to me it is a competition between the two, olga is 39 in doubles, so while maria may hold the edge in singles(apparently is pretty clear ) does she have it in doubles as well?

btw, OLGA made it to the semis in the doubles and that brought her back up to her 39 spot she had occupied earlier this year.

Number 1 and number 2 in the ITF or WTA rankings? As far as I know, Maria doesn't play doubles.
