After today's singles victory BFFs Pervushina & Potapova are 1 & 2 in live junior rankings. If Day beats her tomorrow she would move to #2 though. Anisimova can overtake Masarova if she wins her next doubles match.

2. Potapova 1126.25
3. Masarova 1076.25
4. Anisimova 1072.50

Re: The Wimbledon Junior Championships, Great Britain, GA

Great that there were livestreams for the SF matches ! ;)

I watched the 3rd set of Potapova - Day :p

I was impressed by Anastasia, but not by Kayla to be honest
Anastasia has good fluid groundstrokes, is solid and plays aggressive
Also she is mentally strong, quite mature for her age, very concentrated
I like Anastasia`s game. She should reach the Top 100 without any problems
And not to forget she has a very big determination, and will to win

I also watched the Yastremska - Pervushina match :p

I really like Dayana ! :hearts:
She was the better player and deserved to win
Great focus, fighting attitude, strong strokes and aggressive game
Nice to watch. She only made too many UEs. But mentally a really good performance
Potential is there if she keeps working hard and reduces her UEs

Pervushina has such a weird groundstrokes technique
Who did teach her that ? I was really shocked when I saw that
Especially when Dayana hit harder Olesya had problems. Olesya likes softer balls
On softer balls Olesya hit here and there a nice big winner. But just not consistently
Pervushina is a tall girl. Movement could be better. Her serve is her biggest weapon
She is a bit of a choker/headcase. Potapova and Yastremska seem mentally stronger to me
Does Olesya have the same coach as Kleybanova ? When she stretched to reach a ball she threw herself into it like Kleybanova typically did. To me this weird movement is not nice to watch
She has potential, but there are many things Olesya has to improve
Not sure about her transition to WTA Tour ...

Also I think the grass really suits Potapova and Yastremska
Not sure about Pervushina. Is she better on hard/clay than on grass ?

My rank of these 4 players (only right now, everything can change)

1. Anastasia Potapova
2. Dayana Yastremska
3. Olesya Pervushina

4. Kayla Day

I think Potapova will win the final ! :p
(too solid for Yastremska who makes too many UEs)
But should be very interesting to watch

In a recent interview she said that grass is her favorite surface, but she also likes clay ... I personally think clay suits her game better.

But yeah, Olesya's groundstroke technique is truly horrendous and it saddens me because I think she has the biggest potential out of all the 2000+ girls. Her serve is really huge, not just in terms of pace, but she can also hit her spots very well and accurately. She's just not able to defend that well (but still well enough for her height), and as you said, is really prone to choking and losing leads. The match she lost to Dayana could have been over in two sets if she was more consistent.
Her net approaches are also Garbiñe-like, as in, truly a disaster

Unfortunately, I just don't know if her mentality will allow her to succeed at the pro circuit, but I hope she proves me wrong :armed:

Her time as a Slamless Number 1 is now up

Watching Pervushina Yastremska match brought back memories of Vika Woz matches
You dont have to be a genius to guess who is who
But, (at that age), Olesya has a much bigger serve and was also more aggressive than Woz. In terms of contrasting on-court personalities, then yes

Re: The Wimbledon Junior Championships, Great Britain, GA

http://www.itftennis.com/news/232892.aspx

After reaching the Wimbledon girls’ semifinals, fourth seed Anastasia Potapova admitted it was her greatest hope she would make it to the finals where she would play against top seed Olesya Pervushina, her doubles partner and good friend.

Good fortune prevailed for Potapova when she outlasted fifth seed Kayla Day of the USA 57 62 60 to reach her first Grand Slam junior final.

Unfortunately, her dream of an all-Russian final was dashed by seventh seed Dayana Yastremska of the Ukraine, who battled her way to a 76(4) 67(2) 63 semifinal win over the top seed.

“It’s been not so easy, three sets, but I got through it and I’m so happy to be in the finals,” Yastremska said. “I did everything that I could. Everything was going perfect as I want it. I think I did everything better - serve, returns, forehand and backhands. Everything I did better than her. And, of course, mental too.”

Not surprisingly, the 16-year-old Yastremska had little concern for messing up the all-Russian final possibility. She came to play for her shot at making a Grand Slam final.

“This is one of my favorite tournaments,” Yastremska said. “The crowd helps me so much. I was getting so much support from them and I didn’t expect that. It was amazing. And the grass courts give me a lot of power and I love to play on them. I feel so good.”

Yastremska skipped the usual junior grass court Wimbledon tuneup tournament at Roehampton to practice on the one grass court in all of Ukraine, which is located in Kharkiv. During the year she splits her training between at home in Odessa and at an academy in Istanbul.

“She’s a good player but I am confident that tomorrow I will show my best game,” Yastremska said of Potapova. “I know her very good so I know how to play against her and I am ready for her.”
