Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

Mona coming back from *45 0-40 is sth totally new
Great fight, once she got back to 5-5 she had the advantage on her side and also didn´t choke then again!!

well, tough to say sth after such a match, it´s just great that she managed to came back, so important for her confidence after all those tough defeats before but once again Mona had too many up´s and down´s in her game again.
1st set was easy, and reading the comments she had 3 BPs in a row at 2-2, couldnt use it and then flopped immediately, that´s typical for her and she has to work on it, she has to get more stable but she also needs a good coach to improve but that is another story anyway

Seems like she didn´t risk too much with her serve, actually the wrong tactic IMO against Niculescu, she makes it tough once she is in the rallies, doesnt give u many free points but she isn´t a great returner, so Mona should have risked more with her serve, 55% over 2nd serve is totally fine, shows against that Niculescu doesnt do much on her return but 1 ace and 58% over 1st serve is not good enough.
Return was quite good today, 7 breaks, positive W/UE ratio, so wasn´t too bad but has to improve against Keys obviously. Hope that this match will be a bit closer than in Birmingham but Keys is still the favourite in this match, especially if Mona will serve again like she did today.

Wow Mona, escaping triple match points Shows that she can be mentally tough when she feels like it

Rematch against Madison on grass. Will the confidence at coming out of the first round alive carry her through?

We'll see!

BARBIE

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

Glad she showed her mental fortitude. I wonder when she will reclaim her bombing first serve. Now it's almost safe to say that she hates double fault more than anyone as others have noticed these days. I questioned similar stuffs months ago and it looks like she needs more time to put risk on her service again. Rematch in a week should be interesting. Which tactic will she choose, competing toe to toe or making Keys move?

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

Lost 4 and 2 huh... well, she isn't the most comfortable on this surface, and Keys' does have a serve that can take advantage of the grass. Most likely place for Mona to regroup was always going to be hardcourt rather than grass, hopefully she can produce something in the hardcourt season, and at least she did win one round here.

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

well, as expected, no real chance against Keys.
She is just not good enough at the moment and grass isn´t her best surface anyway, she had a good 1st serve percentage again but just not effective enough, only 1 ace as well and once again she couldn´t deal with Key´s serve at all. I couldn´t watch it but seems (from reading posts) that she was in her typical mood in the end again, where she doesn´t seem to be motivated much with silly mistakes etc., which is really a shame.
It´s all just similar as last year, some good results here and there but just no consistency at all in her game + she is not able to make the important points anymore and then gets easily frustrated.

Anyway, after Gastein she will play on hardcourt again, which is her best surface, her serve is usually more effective there as well but she definitely needs some full time coach who is always with her, her mother is not really a big help obviously, we´ll see how it goes, hope that she finds a good solution here soon!

Yes, grass is by far her worst surface.

She's 53-44 (54.6%) in WTA-MD-Matches, but 43 wins were on HC.

Code:
Indoor HC: 16- 7 69.6%
Outdoor HC: 27-16 62.8%
Clay: 8-13 38.1% (Indoor Clay: 3-3 50.0%)
Grass: 2- 8 20.0%
