Re: Mona Barthel
Mona seems very likeable and has a nice game, smooth serve, smooth groundies esp the bh. Towards the end basically a couple of things came together to cause her to lose. Firstly, she tightened a bit which meant the clean winners dried up. Her shots were still quite good, and she therefore made Angelique run a lot side to side, but Angelique found her highest level and just refused to miss. Angi has good conditioning and excellent defence, and kept making Mona run as well when she countered Mona's shots.
Finally Angelique's physical conditioning probably paid off near the end. Mona was getting tired- she needs to add to her conditioning program in order to stay with someone who refuses to miss deep in the third set. The other option is to just continue to hit the ball hard enough that Kerber cannot get the ball back. Near the end Mona should have switched to this option even if it meant she might self-destruct. She wasn't going to win the battle of attrition that Kerber had turned the rallies into, she needed to finish the rallies more quickly, even at a slight risk of missing.
