Kr. Pliskova def. M.Barthel 16 63 62

It looked really good until the middle of the 2nd set, Kr. Pliskova serve stats were awful at first but she was able to improve while Mona´s 2nd serve stats looked really bad in the end again, a known problem.
Most disappointing fact for me is that Pliskova has won more points than Mona over 2nd serve (45% to 36%), we´ll see what Mona can do in Dubai!

Sad defeat for Mona. :( Of course I knew that she wouldn't just go on winning like she did at the AO and that there are still more setbacks to come but she was in such a good position today when she had 6-1 3-3 30-00 and a 2nd serve for Pliskova. And then it went downhill so fast.

I hope she'll have more luck in the next tournaments

it was just predictable after losing this 7th game in 2nd set, watched it on SB :sobbing: . Suddenly no confidence again as observed so often with her resigning character...
Hope she will turn these slip around someday

and Mona faces Jankovic in Dubai, 1st round!
Interesting match, H2h is 1-1, one clear win for Mona and then that dramatic defeat from Stuttgart, we´ll see how it goes this time, JJ is often unpredictable also. let´s hope that she does not have one of her better days :p

2nd round would be vs. Kerber

Good stuff :yeah:

I couldn´t watch much, JJ was bad but Mona was solid, a bit too passive as usual but well, 61 63 win, not much to complain! :D

A win over Kerber would be really nice also and Mona´s h2h against Kerber is quite good and Angelique is far from impressive so far in 2017, so who knows, good luck!!

lost 46 36 to Kerber

Not a good match from what I saw, Mona way too passive and with too many UEs, too up and down as usual, she just has to become more aggressive again if she wants to win such matches but she wasted too many chances now also, 2nd set 10* 40-0 and then she just played awful tennis and wasted it all...

But of course, still a great season so far but still room to improve for sure, she is on a similar level now as she was before her illness (with the known problems)

Mona

In patches there were some great rallies which reminded me of their great matches some years ago, but overall it was quite a bad match from both players. In the end you can’t make a match competitive against a top player without an aggressive forehand and a first serve.

What I don’t understand is why Mona was so tight all match long. I mean, she had already a great tournament by receiving a wild card and getting a very good win in R1. So she exceeded her expectations already, but still that couldn’t help her to loosen up. Too often during the rallies she missed the moment to take the initiative and remained passive.

But still, it’s a surprisingly good season for Mona so far. I would have never expected such an impressive comeback, considering all the circumstances.

I didn't watch this but I thought she's done with passive styles.
The insecure nature similar to mine, it would crawl back into you again and again even though you always want to deny that part of you as if it's a different personality possessing you.
And as many claim, it would be better being simple than sophisticated especially as an athlete.
