Re: 2016 Summer Season

Here's the thread for Mona's summer campaign until the US Open.

So far, we only know for sure that she's in the MD for Gstaad, Båstad and the ITF tournament in Prague in July. Maybe she'll take a break after these three tournaments to prepare for the US.

Anyway, when we'll get new information I'm just gonna edit the opening post.

Also there's no confirmation yet about Cincinnati or New Haven, I've just included them because she committed to both tournaments last year.

Re: 2016 Summer Season

Can't even remember the last time Mona played an ITF! Was hoping she'd take a WC into Nanchang or something like that since it's an international but I don't see her travelling from Europe to China to the US

Re: 2016 Summer Season

Will they ever finish Mona's R1 match in Gstaad?

Re: 2016 Summer Season

62 16 57 against Golubic in R1 Gstaad Disappointing a bit, but maybe it will be better to leave this rainy place.

Mona Barthel
● Hobart '12 ● Paris '13 ● Bastad '14 ●

Re: 2016 Summer Season

Mona I think Golubic has improved this year and I wasn't expecting an easy match here. But things were going really well in that first set so it definitely would have been possible to get the win here

Re: 2016 Summer Season

Watched it from 3-3 on today. Very up and down.
Mona was dictating the match in every aspect and finished 90 % of the points by a winner or (mostly easy) faults, esspecially at the net.
Well known problemacy with her. Lack of match experience might have played a role as well.
Mona was sweating quite a lot in my impression, otherwise she looked physically okay.
So, mühsam nährt sich das Eichhörnchen and on to the next.

Re: 2016 Summer Season

shame, I only watched the 1st set yesterday but seems like nothing much changed during the match, except that Mona made more UEs in the end and that´s why she lost the match.
She started really aggressive, like the "old" Mona, seemed a bit brainless at times but she did what Kas was telling her, that she has to go for it as soon as possible to put much pressure on Golubic and that was working in the 1st set, especially as her 1st serve was really strong also.
Shame that it did not work out in the end, serve stats looked worse in 2nd/3rd set as well, she just has to get a bit more consistent in general and she needs more matches, seems like she is more aggressive again since she works with Kas, which is not a negative thing obviously but hope that she does not turn into a UE machine again, time will tell, it´s most important that she stays healthy obviously anyway!

Re: 2016 Summer Season

WTA Bastad

1st round vs. Shvedova

Tricky opponent, Shvedova can play great tennis but she often has really bad days as well, tough to predict, we´ll see how it goes.
2nd round would be vs Knapp or Allertova!

Re: 2016 Summer Season

Mona is in R2, she won against Shvedova by retirement. I hope Shvedova will be fine but nice that Mona is in R2

Now against Karin Knapp.

Re: 2016 Summer Season

I only was able to catch some points from the 1st set, quality there was pretty bad, Mona had the *42 lead as Shvedova hit tons of DFs and UEs but Mona herself served really bad and didn´t look good at all.
I hope that she was able to play on a better level then in 2nd/3rd set, 1st serve stats look much better at least, not sure what happened to Shvedova, she was not great but it´s not unusual or her to turn into a DF/UE machine, so hopefully nothing too serious.

I expect a close match against Karin!!
