14 yo Sato (born Jan 23, 2001) from Tokyo (but living in Ashiya) really is one of the most promising Japanese kids!
She's won 4 tournaments in singles this year already: G4 Thamrin Cup International Junior Championships in Jakarta (she was the 4th seed, and beat 17 yo 3rd seed Rifanty Kahfiani 3-6 6-1 6-3 in the final) and G4 Chang Thailand ITF Juniors #1 (she was the 3rd seed, beat 2nd seed Zeel Desai 3-6 7-5 6-2 in SF, and 4th seed Mai Hontama 6-4 0-6 6-1 in the final
) in June; G14 Balle Mimosa Loire-Atlantique in France in July (she was in the MD with a WC, beat top seed Himaro Sato, 4-6 6-4 6-0 in the final); and G5 GREENMAX Cup International Tennis Championships in Taiwan just 2 weeks ago (she was the top seed, beat 2nd seed Himari Sato again in the final, 2-6 6-2 6-2
She also has 2 more final appearances this year: at G4 Wilson Tennis Canterbury ITF in New Zealand in February (she was the 3rd seed, beat top seed Ayumi Miyamoto 0-6 6-3 6-2 in SF, but fell to 2nd seed Haruna Arakawa in the final, 4 & 1), and at G14 Jugend Cup Renningen/Rutesheim (she was there with a MDWC, thrashed 4th seed Marta Kostyuk 1 & 0 in SF, but fell to 5th seed Valentina Ivanov, 6-3 3-6 1-6 in the final); plus 2 more SF appearances at G4s, in Jakarta in June (the week following her title there), and in the Netherlands in July.
She's already at a CHR of 204
Last week she was upset by 2002 born US qualifier Naomi Cheong in QF of G4 Mian-Chang Cup International Junior Championships (she was the top seed there, lost 3 & 1 to Cheong).
But today she snatched a very good win in R1 of GA Osaka Mayor's Cup - World Super Junior Tennis Championships, she beat 16 yo 16th seed Lea Boskovic (#119, a huge girl and who's had a very good year), 6-2 3-6 6-3
Congrats to her, and GL against 17 yo qualifier Misaki Matsuda (CHR 763
) in R2!
