Miyu Kato

Can't believe there hasn't been a thread till now.

She's made great strides the past year, and especially the last couple of months.

Into the finals of $25K Bangkok this week. Close to making US Open qualies, but she has a lot of points coming off at the end of the month.

Re: Miyu Kato

Surprised there was no thread also

She just won the final of Bangkok 75 62, moving her close to top-200 and guaranteeing a spot at US Open qualifying.

That makes 5 1994 girls playing slam qualies: Risa, Eri, Riko, Nao and Miyo
Not sure Makoto and Mana will be able to join the rest of their group Makoto could become a doubles specialist on tour though.

Watching the match, her ability to redirect the ball is great, so many passing shot and lob winners. Hits the ball harder than you would expect with her size.

Re: Miyu Kato

Great win. I was impressed with her today.

She has about 30 points coming off soon... Will this affect her US Open qualies chances?

You are right, it should knock her ranking down a notch but she will still be safe for US Open. Also the next two weeks in China will count towards US Open Qualifying deadline as well.

Re: Miyu Kato

Miyu qualified in Hong Kong, her first ever WTA main draw
Faces Gavrilova in R1 though, would probably need a miracle to get through this one...
