After winning her second round match at the junior aussie open i think its about time heather deserves her own thread. She won her first grade 1 title in 2008 at Yucatan, Mexico and reached the final of the prestigous eddie herr junior tournament.:) Good luck against Miyabi Inoue heather :D:D

Re: Heather Watson

I wish Heather got Laura's draw, Heather wouldn't have wasted a chance to beat Medina Garrigues with the way she was playing!
Heather always seems to get the toughest draw of the British girls *Sigh*

Re: Heather Watson

R2: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 107 beat ARVIDSSON, Sofia (SWE) 5 77 7-5 6-3
QF: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 107 v PASZEK, Tamira (AUT) 3 40

She served 77% last night, with 6 aces.
Whilst clearly not a big server, she placed her first serves well. But only won 29% behind her second serve.

I look at Li Na and Sam Stosur as long term blueprints for her serve. They are, officially, only 2 cm's taller than Heather. However, their physique is considerably more muscular, whereas Heather is quite slight (to be expected for a 19yr old). So if Heather, like Andy always states in his pressers, gets stronger, that will go some way towards helping.

And a special mention again to her speed and agility as when she was bp down trying to serve for the match, she played a point where she was practically out of the rally for 7 shots or something but kept retrieving the ball and then found a moment to pounce herself. Well done.

Pasek got to Wimby quartes and is somewhat of a pocket rocket herself. She gets a whole day to recover, so fatigue should not be a problem. Would be superb if Heather could win--first ever wta tour semi.

Re: Heather Watson

So surprised LTA website has no articles about Heather's success in Quebec! Very disappointed in the lack of support from them!!:fiery:

Re: Heather Watson

Lost 4-6 6-7(5)

Disappointing for Heather. Leading 4-1 in the first, before losing 4-6.
Then has a sp in 2nd. Then left herself too much work to do in the tb, going 0-5 down then recovering to 5*-6

Oh well, she's still in the dubs semis.

Re: Heather Watson

Great news. Just when we thought Heather won't be playing anywhere this week, a late change of heart sees her turn of for a big challenger in Shrewsbury.
Might not be playing her singles until Wednesday, so a couple days to get over the jetlag.

Moreover, she has move back into the top 100 and GB no.2.

Cajoled into playing by the LTA who wanted a top British name after Bally pulled out? If so, I think Hev should be more ruthless about doing what's best for herself.
