Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Phew!

Just to dejinx it, can I say that her next match will be very hard.

Anybody know who and when?

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Q3 will be a greater test of nerve as it's so close to a big pay day (ranking points and cash) for the winner. Hopefully Heather has the extra experience.

I'll tell you if you promise never, ever to call Heather Ever ever again.

Actually, I probably won't be keeping an eye on the thread this afty, I certainly shouldn't, so in anticipation I'll venture that it'll be tomorrow, weather permitting, against Kontaveit.

Kontaveit is correct, ranked 188.

Both of Heather's opponents in Q1 and Q2 have been higher ranked than Kontaveit's opponents so hopefully Kontaveit's wins are not indicative of quality.

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

According to BBC Sport, her round 3 is later today. Konta is indeed underway and 1 set up.

Whatever.

As I have but a limited store of wit, I reserve the right to spread it as I see fit.

But I can promise to stop using "whatever" on Ms. Watson's thread in future.

Kontaveit played only 63 minutes today. Watson played nearly 2 1/2 hours. So really good news if their match is not today.

GL to Ms Watson.

That's good news.

When are the qualifiers "allocated" to the 1st round draw? Heather could be against Sharapova or another qualifier or anything between, assuming she wins tomorrow of course.

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Heather making short work of Anett so far. 6-1, 5-1. She always was the strong favourite, but I was concerned by the talk of strapped ankles, especially if she had had to play a second match yesterday. Hope she can wrap this up without last minute drama, and rest before the main draw.

Fingers crossed for a good spot.

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Superb result, with some fantastic stats...

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/sc...5/12302ms.html

Kontaveit was recently world Junior Number 4, behind IIRC Townsend, Kronjuh and Bencic; consistent GS semifinalist or better, and winner of the Orange Bowl, on clay...

http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/pla...erid=100148047

6-1, 6-1 is red hot.

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Heather is now 9-0 in French Open qualifying; she is 4-0 overall in 3rd round qualifiers for Slams. I had confidence she was going to get a great result today - reminds me of the tough 2nd round match she had in 2012, only to win the 3rd round 6-0 6-1. She is one of the most experienced players in any Qualifying draw and has none of the nerves most girls in qualifying have about getting to a Slam, as she's been there and done that over 10 times!

Also that set she lost yesterday was the first she has ever lost in French Open qualifying - she's 18-1 in sets!!
