I obviously didn't look hard enough. Her full name is - wait for it - 'Laura Margaret Dwyer Robson'. (Thanks to Play_Suspended for the discovery.)

Well, I spent 6 hours of my day filling an overcomplicated shelving unit. How have your weekends been?

Also I think I've mentioned previously that I'm a cheerleader. Recently (I say recently, it was in July) we went to a competition down in Bournemouth. It was the team I was the final ever for the team competition after over 10 years, so pretty emotional. If you're interested in seeing what it is that I do, here's a video from that competition.

Happy Holidays everyone. I hope you have a great time celebrating whatever you do and get to spend some quality time with friends and family. If you don't celebrate anything... well I hope you have a truly great December 25 regardless!

Re: The Sofa: for off topic chat.

So, I went into GM today and saw a thread that was actually interesting... well the news was. The content of the thread was shit, but that's to be expected.

The WTA are interested in having a mandatory, international team competition to kick off the season. This is honestly interesting for one reason: the WTA's continuing crusade against ITF. This is something that's been going on for years, but has only recently become totally blatant but it's not something I see discussed very often. There's the Challenger events, which are clearly intended to kill off the 100Ks slowly but surely.

Then there's the ongoing war against the Fed cup. By massively disincentivising dropping out from WTA events to play FedCup, scheduling Bogota during playoff week, and the replacement of the Tournament of Champions (which results in many of the players who are likely to be in the FedCup final playing in China the week before, which makes the latter event a less thrilling prospect.

And that brings me onto this planned event. Under the current plans for the event, 3 of the players in the Hopman Cup would have been unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts. Additionally, if you've already got an international team event, then that takes away from the FedCup, as the top women opened the year with an international team tournament.

Maybe I'm seeing connections that aren't there but still worth noting.

Well since Laura's back I figure I should probably start posting here again. Been a while, hasn't it?

Any of the old regulars still here? How is everyone, and how have you been filling the Laura shaped holes in your heart?

Still fairly pessimistic about her return.

Working and studying has taken over my time.

It's a new art form showing people how little we care.

Re: The Sofa: for off topic chat.

So, I was watching the mens' doubles final yesterday - a pretty dreary affair, to be honest - and at the end Jamie Murray and his useless partner John Peers went up to the Royal Box to collect their runners up plates. And, I could only see her from the back, but I swear Angela Merkel was there: the woman had the exact same haircut, the same suit, the same build. I was thinking to myself, "What the hell is Angela Merkel doing at Wimbledon at a time like this?" The Greek bailout talks in Brussels are at crisis point but, instead, she decides to fly to London to watch Jamie Murray??? If Merkel's so distracted, it suddenly makes sense that Greek journalists at Wimbledon were begging Laura Robson to come up with some ideas to help prevent their economy collapsing.

Then the woman in the Royal Box turned round... It was the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.

Re: The Sofa: for off topic chat.

I was watching Jo's epic 2nd round encounter with Donna Vekic on Wednesday when I kept wondering who was the young woman sitting beside Stan Wawrinka in Vekic's player box. Then it finally dawned on me: it was Charlie Pearce! There was a moment of pure theatre when Jo was serving at *8-8 in the final set. Jo had just made the second of two ill advised drop-shots in the game when Donna rushed in to reach it and place the ball perfectly down the line. That brought up 0-30 - two points from the break - and the camera swung over to Donna's supporters to reveal Charlie with her hands clasped in prayer. Pure Hollywood!

The following evening I was watching Laura's Robson's doubles match with Jocelyn Rae against Ostapenko and partner, when the camera flashed to a familiar face stanning for Laura court-side. Yep. It was the legendary Charlie Pearce!

When I read your story, I was like "Oh right, Charlie Pearce". I thought, I had definitely heard of this woman. However, upon trying to look her up on google or IMDB, I could not find her... Then I tried again today and I still can not find this woman. There is apparently a New Zealand Rugby player could Charlie Pearce... Very strange.. Perhaps she has been erased from time.
