Sloane Stephens - The Road to YEC 2013 ISTANBUL

It is getting closer guys, we will be tracking Sloane's assault on the YEC which is looking more and more likely. She still has New Haven, US OPEN, Tokyo, Beijing and Luxembourg to play. Wouldn't just be a massive achievement for her to make it. She has looked to peak at the right time the slams. Reaching Semi Final of Australia, 4th Round of French and Quarter Final of Wimbledon.

Will she make it ? I think so - Sloane is here and here to stay

Thoughts

Player's forum please. There's no reason for her to have her own YEC thread here when there's already one documenting the players YEC chances

This forum respects so much that she needs to have this on here. It is a tennis forum to talk about tennis major achievement and should be documented No other Under 21 player is even close

On the contrary. I am not a hater, but I will honestly and respectfully admit that I do not like her. Now, you all see the great potential and the lady has not one single title under her belt.

She still hasn't even reached a final, I hope she does this week so I can shut up about it but until she does I don't rate her

Winning a title is the more important career milestone. Even if she reaches a final this year, I don't think it'll change much. It's about being the lady of the week for at least one week.

Hopefully she'll qualify for YEC, it make for a very random outcome

Can she really qualify without even being to a final? Has this happened before I wonder?

Would be funny if she makes and win the YEC without making a final in all other tournaments.

I was wondering whether a player has ever participated in the WTA YEC in Singles having not won a title?

Sure it happened...Dementieva'05, Bartoli'07...
Unless you say about not winning EVER before, but how is that relevant ?

Bartoli won Auckland in 2006, but thanks. I was just wondering as general tennis trivia, nothing as a commentary on Sloane.

The quintessential answer: Kournikova, in 1999 and 2000. Although back then the YEC was a 16-player, single-elimination draw.
