Wellington, NZ $10K event

Anyone post the scores? I remember last year there was a website for this but I can't find it this year

All I got was this http://www.wellingtontennis.org.nz/

but there was a better site last year that gave match reports

Play in qualifying started today.

Su Wei Hsieh was a qualifier last year and ended up winning the event, her first ITF tournament.

Shelley Stephens will be back to defend her finalist points. I caught a glimpse of her playing in the Australian Open this year, her first Grand Slam match. She played ok, nothing impressive though.

Sarah Stone should be there, it was her best result last year, reaching the quarter finals. Helped her a lot to bring her ranking up the 400 places it rose last year from 1236 to 836.

There should be a few more Aussies here this year. If anyone can post scores as soon as you see them I would be appreciative of this.

Shelley should be playing 25K events and one win there is enough to defend 10K final pts

Good luck to my favs

Glad to hear it too Ausboy! I hope she cuts down on the 10K events this year! Any other news on potential Aussie players?

Eden's a 14 year old junior (turning 15 soon), she's currently New Zealand's top ranked junior in the ITF rankings thanks to a couple of good G3 results making finals which helped, though she's yet to really breakthrough with anything on the higher junior level scale. She's still young though, so still some time to gain more experience

She's a right hander, double handed backhand, and she's 5'10" tall so I think physically she already has a good start aswell...Plus she likes basketball and Internet just like me, so she can't be all that bad

Cool thanks,

Hopefully she can develop into a top player as New Zealand needs more of a role model than Shelley Stephens, who unfortunately doesn't quite have the game to get much higher.

Yeah, it's too bad the girls in New Zealand don't fair better, I guess they just don't get a whole lot of funding over there.

Eden trains in France a lot as one of Bob Brett's "elite team" members (though he's not her coach). He works with a few ATP players but nobody that big, though he does work with several higher ranked juniors including Gilles Muller who was the year end Boys' Singles #1, so I think that's a good sign for her. She can also serve and volley, though i reckon she's still got lots of room for improvement in that category since she's still really young.

I was glad to see all 3 aussies qualify!

The draw is actually pretty kind to most of the aussies.

I'll be disappointed if Szili, Rochelle, Tiffany Welford, Lauren Breadmore, Nicole Kriz, Cassandara Barr and Lauren Cheung don't all win!

Feel sorry for Julie-Ann drawing her sister after she qualified so well.

Really hope Sarah can cause an upset, she's defending Q/F points from last year which she can't afford to lose. She's got a tough draw, I'm hoping the fact she has more experience than her opponent might in her favour, especially if its windy like last year.

Donna bummed out, hopefully she can pull off the biggest win of her career, u never know, she has the game to beat Shelley! After what I saw from Shelley I think this will be reasonably close, probably 6-3 6-4 to Shelley. Donna's not a bad player.

Don't know anything about Hsiao-Han Chao, but hopefully she's a walk in the park for Darya hehe
