Re: $25,000 Noto (JPN) 2012 | Sep 03 (Entry List)

I really dont understand how British tennis can pay for all the trips of these hopeless players, in particular Melanie South, who has done NOTHING in her career that would justify this treatment. She is not good enough for European/American callengers, so British tennis lets her go to Australia and Japan to win some matches there (which she hardly does).

In her last Australia trip (nine tournaments from September to November), she went 8-9 there, never making the semis and losing to the likes of Rottmann, Litvak and Tredoux. How can British tennis still pay/waste money for her trips? Seriously, I dont understand...

and does she not have any other career options?

Mel is a better doubles player IMO and thats where she gets her money, the best person to explain this would be WIMBY I think.

You really cant make a living from winning or reaching finals of doubles of 25k's.

From the nine Australian 25k's South played at the end of 2011, she made 842$ from doubles competition (2x SF, 5x QF) and 3467$ from singles competition (3x QF, 2x R16, 4x R32). So she made about 4500$ in three months in Australia. This is by far not enough to cover all expenses.

Did she actually go home for Christmas or stayed in Australia since at the beginning of 2012, she played four more tournaments there.

According to some British posters LTA does not pay for her trips. Her family must be rich or something. The true is that she is in denial

It's some weird stuff pretty common in Japan. Like carpet with some sand spread all over it I've played on it and it is not really a very fast surface.
