Re: 25,000 Glasgow (GBR) 2011 | Oct 17 (Draws)
(1)Yvonne Meusburger (AUT) def Nikola Hofmanova (AUT)
i didnt watch all of this match, mainly because i was pretty sure it would be a comfortable win for meusburger, and i was right. from what i did see, meusi was quite impressive with consistent, deep hitting which really sets her apart from a lot of players at this level. hofmanova was ok, but she was beaten comprehensively by a better player.
(3)Victoria Larriere (FRA) v (Q)Lesley Kerkhove (NED)
ive followed larriere's results for a while now, so i was quite excited to see her live for the first time, but i can't say that i was overly impressed. to be fair, kerkhove played very well for the most part, and then larriere showed a lot of fight and guts to tough it out when she wasn't playing at her best. some flashes of brilliance, but a lot of ue's in this match. i still expect larriere to reach the semis at least.
(8)Stephanie Vogt (LIE) v (Q)Anett Kontaveit (EST)
imo kontaveit is going to be a player. she has all the tools and is only 15. her return of serve was a real weapon again, firing several winners off it, and she produced great comebacks in each set when down 1-5 and then 1-4. she actually served for the 2nd set but then went to pieces. vogt played a good game overall and did well not to crumble following the comebacks. she was especially impressive at the start of the match.
(4)Claire Feuerstein (FRA) v Johanna Konta (AUS)
konta choked bigtime here which was a shame. she led by a set and 5-2, and at that point hadn't even faced bp, but after squandering several mp's on feuerstein's serve, she was then broken and her game deteriorated quickly. she missed 5 mp's in total. credit to feuerstein who raised her game and played a few of the mp's very well.
Ioana-Raluca Olaru (ROU) v (wc)Alexandra Walker (GBR)
comprehensive scoreline, but olaru showed why she has fallen so drastically down the world rankings in the first few games. she went down 1-2* and had played some pretty dreadful stuff at that point. however, she gradually improved, and she was hardly playing a top class opponent, otherwise it could have been a very different story.
