Firstly Friday's results:
Cristelle Grier BEAT Megan Emmett 6-3, 6-1
Alice Barnes BEAT Kelly Simkin 6-2, 6-2
Rebecca Dandeniya BEAT Eva Erbova 7-6, 6-1
Charlotte Wallace BEAT Lynsey Davison 6-4, 7-6
Cristelle Grier BEAT Alice Barnes 6-3, 6-4
Rebecca Dandeniya BEAT Charlotte Wallace 6-3, 6-4
Cristelle Grier BEAT Rebecca Dandeniya 6-2, 6-0
Dandeniya held her first 2 service games quite easily, and then suddenly Grier found the range of her shots. She produced relatively little power in her shots, but a brilliant accuracy. Most of the games were 40-30 and 40-15, so it wasn't quite as easy as it looks from the score.
I did wonder though, why isn't a player like Grier (who is world ranked 408) playing the European 10k/25ks like the ones in France and Croatia this week?
Today's matches (Peter Clarke from Ireland won a bad-tempered men's final) were played on green clay outdoors.
Interestingly two of this year's British Tour tournaments (Doncaster & Paddington/ Maida Vale) which were withdrawn due to loss of Girobank as a sponsor, have now been reinstated. This is because the LTA expects to announce a new British tour event sponsor soon.
