Monica_R., FYI: It's quite unlikely that the tournament with the best field of the whole tour will leave Germany anytime soon.

And I hope that DSF will continue to broadcast it so that you won't get any pictures.

Why doesn't Eurosport broadcast German tournaments? That sucks!
I think I only have ARD WDR and RTL (or was it ZDF and one of these not ) and no DSF

What would you say if we could make
something amazing

wonder if my satelite still works

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night

DSF is available on Astra 1 satellite across Europe free to air. The thing is you must have a dish pointed at Astra 1.

In Britain the old round Sky dishes point at Astra 1. The new minidishes don't. Murdoch pointed them all to Astra 2, which is his little empire.

The commentary is in German only, but scores and calls are repeated in English.

Hi guys - I used to work for Eurosport and can explain a little. Eurosport did a deal with the WTA a few years ago to screen the Tier 1's and the majority of the Tier 2's (a couple of Tier 3's have sneaked in at times too.)

Eurosport as you know is broadcast on one continous signal in 18 different languages at one time. Therefore you cannot block it out in just one country.

There are a couple of tournaments - namely this one in Filderstadt and the Paris Indoors that have existing TV contracts with the WTA from before the Eurosport contract was signed. On the Filderstadt and Paris Indoors contracts it states that Eurosport cannot broadcast pictures from these events as it will take away from their ratings with DFS in Germany and the French Channel for the Paris Indoors.

As Eurosport can't block the signal to Germany, it cannot show the event to the rest of Europe - which is a shame - but not Eurosport's fault. It is blocked by the WTA and its existing TV contracts...

The schedule for tomorrow has not been made yet, but I would be prepared to bet DSF will show Barbara Rittner's match (against Amelie Mauresmo). Maybe I missed one, but I think that's the only german player in the main draw, so the national bias shold not be influencing broadcast during the week ...

How can someone be so childish to say it´s about time to take away events from a country just because the broadcast is local ?

It´s about time to realize that it´s a diversity we are celebrating here and that due to this diversity in broadcasting it´s a sad fact that the TV contract is limited to a German channel.

It´s a contract between the WTA and TV channels, not the fault of the event or the country.

There are events in the US we cannot see as well but do we say, okay, it´s about time to bring the event to Europe ?

I´m a fan of the US, but sometimes it´s just too much patriotism/"the rest of the world has to follow us".
