Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Kaia lost 57 36

She really should have won that 1st set, imo she was the better player, but woulda-shoulda-coulda...

She's had 2 matches now. Next scheduled tournament is Marrakech in 2 weeks time.

Fed Cup could give some match play, but it's like playing Zaniewskas more less, but having a bad day in losing a match wouldn't add anything to confidence.

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

It's tough after being out for so long. Kaia only won 2/11 BP. Then again Karo has a good serve, so maybe she just served really well at those important moments. Only was able to watch the last couple of games.

She just needs a few matches, get back in the rhythm again

Karo is having a really good year so far She was so calm, didn't really celebrate her win or anything. If you didn't see the match, you would not know who just won that match. Left the court at the same time as Kaia as well.

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

I was expecting more based on yesterday's performance, but we must not forget that it was only her second match after 6 months Looks like Pliskova is an uncomfortable opponent for her as well.

I still hope she plays Fed Cup to get some more match practice, hard to believe she'd lose to 300+ ranked players there.

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Kaia's own words: "I felt quite good on my groundstrokes today. Her serve and especially her first serve was very difficult. She served very well.

I did have my chances in the first set but I could not keep the lead. I lost my concentration for a moment in the middle of the second set. It felt that she was playing very well all the time, she got easy points on her serve and I had to do hard work to keep up. I could not bring change to the match. Well, that's how it went today, I'll keep playing and trying to get better."

Kaia

Disappointing, but at least Kaia won her R1 match. She is still rusty. Too many UEs. Pliskova surprised me, she played really well. And has improved her footwork/movement a lot. Karolina Pliskova`s serve is a big weapon too. I wish Kaia kept the ball in play more. And won this match. But sadly it didn`t happen. I guess it will take some time to get back to old form. For now I`m just very happy to see that Kaia is back. I really missed her and I hope she can stay healthy.

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Karo played very well, and deserved to win, but I'm still disappointed for Kaia

Still, onwards and upwards! Just so happy to have her back.

One of the worst round 1 matches possible. But then she was lucky in Katowice.

It has been a while since her last match against AMG.

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

well if she get's by AMG she'll have easier opponents

Good luck Kaia and Anett in 2014.
Also Wozniacki, Jankovic, Ivanovic, Stosur, Gajdosova and K-Kookie!!

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Not the easiest opponent, but AMG got injured in Charleston so her current form may be questionable. Kaia leads H2H 3-1, last 2 matches were tough 3 setters. Minella/Pironkova should be a lot easier.

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Tough opener, but given the form she showed in Katowice, she should win this. Can't wait to see the match, luckily I have the Moroccan sports tv which broadcasts the tournament on my television GL Kaia

I think she can win this but it will be tough
If she gets by then I think that she will go very far
If she can get to the SF that would be a great achievement
She would be on track to defend her Estoril points that way
I don't see her beating Cibulkova though
Although if someone like Bertens beats Cibulkova first she has a chance for a Final or even Title

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Against Anabel. I remember their last match, 3rd set was a real battle, games were very long.

But it's still a tough quarter, in fact a tough top part of the draw. No easy matches in Marrakech.. and I thought this could have been an easier tournament

One match at the time.

Re: Kaia Kanepi Cheering Thread!!!

Anabel will be tough, but she had that horrible injury in Charleston, and she was already in woeful form before that, so Kaia has a good chance imo. Fingers crossed!
