The Fall commeth: Angelique Kerber

Ok, so this question is asked in TF. I pose the same question here. Genie fans are worried about her results at the YEC and she is only 20, yet, how worried should we be about Angie's latest results. Is she on the downside of her career?

Should we rightfully start thinking about this question? Does Angie think about this already too? what are your thoughts?

She questions her motivation too, on facebook, especially after 2014 US Open. Just wondering if being a front runner, and a top 10 player, is throwing her off, and the pressure is getting to her

Re: The Fall commeth: Angelique Kerber

Maybe, I think whe have already seen peak Kerber in 2012 but she is still able to play tennis on a very high level. We have to see what happens with the young players like Bencic etc next year but all in all there is no one in the ranking behind Angie I fear at the moment. I hope she'll have a good start into the next season to defend her points from last year to not fall out of the Top 10.

But I think the title of the tread is too depressing

Yes, i think the title may be too harsh, that's my fault. I really hope no fall is coming. I also think she can play some high level tennis this coming year.

Her ascent in 2012 was her most inspirational tennis. Just hoping she can channel this again as she turns 27.

Re: The Fall commeth: Angelique Kerber

It seems like alot of the top players retire in their late 20's, and given her fb posts just wondering if this is influencing her as well. She's had a nice career so far, and made way more money than I'll ever make. Plus, doesn't she have a tennis academy in her hometown? She's set

I think Angie just needs to recharge her batteries in the off-season. She had a lot of pressure this year, but if she can find serenity within herself and be comfortable just doing the best she can, she can maintain her status as a top player .

Re: The Fall commeth: Angelique Kerber

well, who knows? she managed to stay in the top 10 despite not winning a title in this season and slowly declining since '12 which might well be considered her peak year. she could stick around in top10-20 for much longer though, i assume...

I have no doubt she will maintain in 2015. Will she finally break through and win a GS tournament?

Re: The Fall commeth: Angelique Kerber

She needs a great slam result or something outstanding, I think. Angie has been one of the most consistent players on tour, going deep in most events, but she lacks true highlights these days. Her Sharapova win in Wimbledon was such a moment, but she needs more. I think it is just that what Angie lacks now, and it probably was a different feeling for her in 2012, because she was the hunter then, the player that other players feared in their draw.

Thank you for all these moments over the last years! Supported you until your final point!

The common theme is if you are not improving, you are falling behind. (something like that)

no, can't see that. she didn't in '12 when she peaked and had her breakthrough on the tour...

Bartoli didn't when she peaked for the first time in 2007, but did it in 2013.
Never say never, with the right draw and at the right time at the right place.

She will win a grand slam in 2015. She's still at her peak.

That's true for everyone, but Marion had more quality wins over the elite than Angie had, plus she had reached a GS final before. Also, she is more aggressive, so on a given day she was dangerous to anyone. Angie just like Jelena Jankovic, Aga Radwanska or Caro Wozniacki will have an even tougher time to win a slam IMO. Post-Serena you can imagine a lot of things though - let's hope Angie will still be around where she is now then.

why will she have a tougher time? it's possible with a wide open game next year, that Angie could benefit. It's foolish to think otherwise.
