Angelique

Serena is the best player in the world, so not a shame to lose to her. Some great points in the 1st set from Angelique. Serena played excellent in 2nd set. Tomorrow another very difficult match vs super consistent Azarenka. Nothing to lose at least.

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck

I have a bad feeling about today. Vika seems very determined and Angie just looks exhausted. I hope I'm wrong but I think Vika routs her easily today.

Couldn't have been more wrong and happy that I was wrong. Angie played a hell of a match today. Going toe to toe with the #1 player in the world on a big stage is big time and yet again should prove to Angie that she belongs amongst the games elite players.

Great fight. Improve that 2nd serve and I have no worries about next year.

Re: Angie's last tournaments in 2012 (Tokyo/Beijing/Istanbul)

I would like to mention one thing. Angie is one of the few players who has been making decent improvements in her game. Most pro players stay almost the same for years and years despite trying to improve, because it's difficult to get better when you are already very good, but Angie improved her fitness a lot, and now it seems she has improved her first serve quite a bit too. I'm impressed, that's the way to become or remain an top player. If she can improve the second serve- and it won't be easy, because there is a lot of pressure on a second serve so habits usually kick in- then she might go even one step further, but I'm already impressed by her and her team's consistent effort to improve her.

Angie showed today why she is at the YEC. Great display. Did not expect her to do THIS well really. Azarenka was clutch on Angie's MPs and never looked behind after that.

But she needs to start winning those matches sometime. Don't see her already established among elite players. She still lacks bigger achievements, but most important will be to prove if she can play on that level more than one season.

Today we have seen the real Angie Kerber. She lost the game, but it could have ended differently.
