AO 4th Round Interview
20.01.2013

Q. Was it your back that was troubling you? How is that?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: I don't know. Yes, it was my back, and I will go after here to the physios and to the doctor, and then I will see what's going on there.

Q. It seemed like your serve was a bit affected. What affected that?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: Yeah, I could move; that was fine. But just my serve, when I go back, it's, yeah, there is a lot of pain there.

Q. Did you go into the match feeling anything, or did it happen...
ANGELIQUE KERBER: I actually feel it, yeah, like two, three days.
So I was thinking it will be maybe not too bad, but in the first set I, yeah, was feeling that and it was actually worse and worse.
Also I take, yeah, the treatment. But it was not too good.

Q. Your opponent, she seemed to obviously test you pretty well, as well.
ANGELIQUE KERBER: Yes, I knew before the match that it will be a tough one because she played very well also last year.
We played some matches against each other, and it was every time very close. Yeah, she played very well today and I try my best, so well done to her.

Q. Do you think she can go further? Like is she in pretty good form?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: Yeah, I think if she played very well she can, yeah, beat also top players. But, you know, every match start from zero, and we will see.

Q. Is there frustration about the injury and how that affected the result today?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: Of course I'm not happy about the result, but I think it was not a bad tournament for me. I try my best until the last point, and we will see what happen with my back. Now I'm looking forward and looking to the next tournament.

Q. Do you take some positives out of the tournament, seeing that it was an injury that had a large part in today's result and up till then you were playing well?
ANGELIQUE KERBER: Yeah. Of course it was my first fourth round here in Australia, and of course I take a lot of positive things. Yeah, what's happen with my back, we will see in the next hours or days. But I always like to be here. I enjoy my time. Now I will go back to Germany tomorrow or like in two days and, yeah, looking forward.

Jetzt erst recht.“

Re: Angie: Interviews, Tweets and Video Appearances

Bald.

BNP Paribas Open – 5 Minutes with… Angelique Kerber

Posted on March 11, 2013 by BNP Paribas Open

By Nicholas McCarvel

BNP Paribas Open No. 4 seed Angelique Kerber used a shocking run at the 2011 US Open to vault herself into the tennis public’s conscience, then followed that up with a top-ten year in 2012 that included a semifinal appearance at Wimbledon and two WTA titles. She also met her childhood idol and compatriot Steffi Graf last summer, something she said was a dream come true. See our chat with the bubbly German below. She into the fourth round after beating Yanina Wickmayer Monday on Stadium 1.

Hi Angelique! Wait, is it OK if we call you ‘Angie?’
Yes! That’s what all my friends call me anyway.

If you only could keep three things that you own, what would they be?
My phone, my pillow and my family. This pillow I’ve had since I was a baby, so I have to have it. [Laughs.]

A special pillow! Love it. If you could trade lives with anyone for one day, who would it be?
Heidi Klum.

Ah, another German. Very cool. What about walking around in public in Germany, do you have to go out in big sunglasses and a hat?
Well, of course [I'm recognized] more than two years ago, but I like it. If people come up to me, I speak with them or give them an autograph or a photo.

Do you have a lucky number?
Yes, eight. I don’t know why, but it’s just been that way since I was a kid. When we played Bingo or something like that, eight was always my favorite for some reason.

Eight it is then. If you could play mixed doubles with any player in history, who would it be?
Roger. For sure Roger. I love everything about his game. His movement, the way he hits the ball … without much effort. It’s beautiful.

Tell us about the first time you ever saw a poster or ad of yourself somewhere. What was your reaction?
It was exciting. I think it was in a magazine in Germany. I was sitting in a doctor’s waiting room in Germany and I saw the ad there. I was so surprised.

When you come to Indian Wells, what is your favorite thing to do here?
I love to go to the Cheesecake Factory. It’s actually like the second player’s lounge because so many players like to go there. [Laughs.] My favorite cheesecake is Macadamia Nut.

What do you like about this tournament?
This is one of my favorite tournaments… this place is incredible. It’s quiet here and it’s warm and sunny. Everyone here is so friendly. It’s so great to be back here.
