Well, there's obviously no "Moldavian tennis" subforum for the moment, and I don't think there's even a thread dedicated to a Moldavian player yet because there's no player that really deserves it for the moment, so I thought we could discuss about Moldavian players/ young prospects/ results here. :) I don't think such a thread exists, I've looked up quickly but didn't find anything. I such a similar thread exists, tell me and I'll delete this one ;)).

There's not many Moldavian players for the moment, maybe the fact that Moldova sadly is the poorest European country accounts for much as playing competitive tennis is actually expensive. Hope with the younger generations, more Moldavian players will come up! :yeah:

Here is a short list of players that could be worth following:

- ranked players

Anastasia Vdovenco (WTA 772, born 1994)

- players without a ranking

Aliona Bolsova (Juniors CHR: #90, born 1997)
Alina Soltanici (Juniors CHR: #443, born 1995)
Gabriela Porubin (Juniors CHR: #441, born 1994)
Anastasia Detiuc (born 1998)
Adriana Sosnovschi (born 1998)
Cristina Bucsa (born 1998)

Daniela Ciobanu (Juniors CHR: #353, born 1995)
Julia Helbet (WTA CHR: 1085, born 1988)
Alisa Martinov (Juniors CHR: #1932, born 1997)
Melisa Martinov (Juniors CHR: #845, born 1994)

The ones I put in red are obviously the more promising. :) Come discuss! :cheer:

Re: Moldavian tennis!

Last week, Gabriela Porubin qualified in 10K Antalya (with wins over Pia Konig & Varvara Kuznetsova :yeah:), before falling in R1 to (7)Chantal Skamlova.

This week she's trying qualies again, Q1 vs. Patricia Martins :bounce: :)

Re: Moldavian tennis!

I remember watching Bolspva at AO juniors this year against Lottner
How did you find her? :)

This week:

Vdovenco plays 10K Le Havre, R1 vs. Ema Mikulcic :bounce:

Porubin qualified for 10K Antalya: beat Martins 1 & 1 in Q1, then (3)Tomic 2 & 3 in Q2 :yeah: :worship:, and Dide Beuer 2 & 0 in final Q round :woohoo: Then she lost in R1 5-7 2-6 to Lenka Jurikova  It's ok, Lenka is much more experienced :)

Updates :)

Anastasia Vdovenco is playing 10K Gonesse next week, she's directly in MD :)

Cristina Bucsa was given a Q WC for 10K Madrid qualies, she lost in Q1 to Aida Martinez Sanjuan, 3 & 3

Re: Moldavian tennis!

BOMBSHELL! Aliona Bolsova took Spanish nationality (not so surprising, as she's been training in Spain for a while now - pretty much all girls train out of Moldova anyways), and slightly modified her name: she's Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov now. :p

I'll still be updating her results in this thread for the moment, as she doesn't have her own thread anyways. She lost in R1 of G3 Torneo ITF Junior Benicarlo this week, 2 & 2 against Jasmine Paolini :(

Cristina Bucsa qualified for the same tournament, won her R1 match against Alannah Griffin, 6-1 7-6(4), before losing in R2 to Paolini like Aliona, 5-7 3-6 :sobbing:

Re: Moldavian tennis!

Vdovenco won 1 & 4. :)

She seems to be so erratic though, quite a mess, I can imagine why she's been stuck more or less at the same level for quite a while now.

Moldova 2 - 0 Kenya

Re: Moldavian tennis!

Vdovenco just made her 1st SF of the year this week (after barely winning a match in a 10K MD this year). It was in 10K Galati, she was seed 4. She lost badly in the SF though, 0 & 3 to Simion. :( Still, it's rather positive!
