Unfortunately I had no time to watch the match
Can you tell me please, how was her serve/forehand/backhand, what`s her weakness ?
Her first serve is pretty good, given her ranking. I am particularly impressed by the kick-serve out wide into the deuce court. Her percentage of first serves in was so high that I couldn’t really form an opinion of her second serve, which suggests she ought to be able to go for her first serve even more.
Her forehand works well on clay. It is her main weapon. She gets into a rhythm on it and clearly enjoys playing the shot. Her forehand is much stronger than her backhand, so she runs around onto the forehand side a lot. This does cost her now and again, as she can be caught out of position if she does it too many times in a rally.
Her weakness? Lack of confidence. Steffi just doesn’t seem to believe in herself when it comes to the big points.
Yesterday, she was down an early break, and late in the first set, broke back to level up, then had several points to actually go a break up in the first set. But – for example, she was at the net for an easy putaway, and pushed it down the tramlines. In fact, she had winning chances throughout the match, but it looked like nerves overcame her.
If only she had access to the kind of coaching that top 50 players can get!
