U.S. to Face Israel in Fed Cup

LONDON (AP) - The United States, eliminated in the first round of the Fed Cup by Austria, will play Israel this summer for a place in next year's World Group.

The Americans will have home advantage for the July 20-21 playoffs, one of eight ties drawn Friday by the International Tennis Federation.

The United States, a 17-time Fed Cup winner, was ousted 3-2 by Austria last weekend in Charlotte, N.C. The defeat came after captain Billie Jean King kicked Jennifer Capriati off the team for practicing with her own coach.

In other playoff matches, Australia, eliminated by defending champion Belgium, was drawn to play at home against the Netherlands, while Sweden will host Switzerland.

The other ties: Hungary vs. Argentina, Czech Republic vs. Canada, Colombia vs. Japan, China vs. Russia and Slovenia vs. Ukraine.

The matches will be played on the same weekend as the World Group quarterfinals.

Playoff winners will secure spots in the 2003 World Group, while losers will go into the regional qualifying groups.

you think Shahar will play? I think she's too young to be there. do you know how tall she is? she's so talented, and such a fighter, I think she can really do well if she's tall enough.
and don't worry, I doubt Jen will play. maybe Lindsay will play! I wouldn't have any problem though. in fed cup you support your country. in everything else I support Lindsay:-).
but why is it automaticly in the states . they should have atleast discussed coming here!

Great avatar Martyfan.

I don't have to root for all U.S. players if they are not worthy of me rooting for them IMO. There are some I just don't care for because of their arrogance.

It will depend on who will be playing.

Davenport, Capriati, Molik, Golovin, Seles, Clijsters, Myskina, Dementieva, Groenefeld, Frazier, Sprem, Hantuchova, Peschke, Dulko, Ivanovic, Smashnova, Likhovtseva, Vaidisova, Zvonereva, Schiavone, Pennetta

I would LOVE it if Lindsay and Monica played for the U.S.. There are other players I would like to play for us but they probably wouldn't get picked because of their ranking.

Davenport, Capriati, Molik, Golovin, Seles, Clijsters, Myskina, Dementieva, Groenefeld, Frazier, Sprem, Hantuchova, Peschke, Dulko, Ivanovic, Smashnova, Likhovtseva, Vaidisova, Zvonereva, Schiavone, Pennetta

Front row seats are $180 - Yikes, but I now have mine

I agree; I'm incredibly lucky. It's about time we have some tennis venues here!! Perhaps if we host well they'll consider doing more.
