Japan d. Philippines 3-0

Akiko Morigami d. Anna Patricia Santos 4-6 6-1 6-2
Rika Fujiwara d. Czarina-Mae Arevalo 6-3 6-0
Saori Obata/Yuka Yoshida d. Arevalo/Santos 6-0 6-0

-----

Good start for Japan.
The only Challenge they'll face in this pool is China whom they'll play on Friday.
They'll face Thailand tomorrow.
I'm glad they didn't use Saori for today's match as it was unnecessary.
I can't believe Akiko lost the first set. It must have been the old Akiko in that set.

Poor Philippines.

Angry

Most results are already available and I have received nothing .

Congratulations to Japan for this victory. Poor Philippines. Not the easiest opponent for the first day.

Good starts for China and Korea.
I don't understand why New Zealand didn't use Leanne and Shelley for singles?
Disappointing loss for Hong Kong.

Thanks for the results .

Quite a few severe scores here .

For New Zealand, I suppose the captain did not expect much and prefer to keep Leanne and Shelley for other encounters where NZL has more chances. A lot of matches to come for these players.

Korean teams and Chinese teams are going to be hard to beat

Japan will put up a fight though i am surprised Morigami was taken to three!
They will probably use the in-form Yoshida in a singles - but they still have Obata at their disposal! let a lot the fact that Rika.F and Morigami have been playing pretty good tennis this year.

China will work very well as a team me thinks!
Thai team is never strong without Tammy - Tamarine could literally pull the thai team through on her own!

I would reckon Taiwan would be quite strong when they play as well
