No fine for the US

The US team won't be fined for withdrawing from Fed Cup last year. But supposedly, they've arranged some financial restitution for the hosts.

Oooh, another thread where I can start raving and ranting let's do a bit fo copy/paste here:

I already had my tantrum about this when the USA pulled out sometimes I just feel, what for? the big ones always get to have their way, just because they can, and they always will, being upset over it takes me nowhere...

It is my opinion that BJK pulled out because she was mad that we had the Fed Cup in Madrid instead of where she wanted. She could not make the big names play and that is a blow to her ego. I think that, up to this point, some big names in USA only have played Fed Cup when they had to (in order to be able to go to the Olympics) and that their position has been rather clear to everyone save BJK, who for some reason thinks *she* can draw anyone to play for the Fed Cup. I believe that BJK pulled out of the Fed Cup without checking first with players like Lisa, Monica, Meghann or Chanda, because she does not want to play unless she thinks she's winning. I think she would sell the dreams of a single person (as in Raymond) or of a whole stadium (as in Madrid) for a piece of gold. That's just my opinion.

But she has the USTA supporting her. She said it was due to the 11th of September.

Did I already say that the big ones always get their way because they can?

Money, Billie, the war, playing on clay 2 days after the indoor season............. these are just 4 reasons I could mention. The US team should have been fined, it was a disgrace

First, I agree about the fine (and I suspect "restitution" is bullshitese for "penalty") and I do think the USTA used 9/11 as an excuse to pull out (which I find far more offensive than the actual withdrawl) because they didn't want to send what they considered a "B" team.

But don't hang this on Billie (you have enough other reasons to be unhappy with her). From the reports right after the bail-out was announced, BJK was not only surpised she was angry at the decision. Since then she and a few of the players have made some luke-warm public statements supporting the USTA's stance but none of them said anything that would indicate that they were consulted, let alone involved in that decision.

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.
