It makes more sense to at least give them a chance and the experience than it does to throw a wildcard to random choices like Rampre and Feuerstein.
A good post. Only 1 NZ player gets a QWC?
As usual, the tournament screws over the NZ players. Someone else needs to be in charge of these NZ tournaments but I don't know if it will ever happen. They offer WCs to Rampre, Feuerstein, Puig? WTF? There are always players 1 or 2 places out, but other tournaments still give wcs to the locals.
I've said it before. For a while now the people in charge of the two NZ tournaments have been screwing over the NZ players. They don't care about NZ tennis. They always "believe" that the overseas players "deserve" the wcs more than local players. There are no other tournaments in NZ where players can gain experience. Who cares if the players' aren't "ready" for this level? It's normal to give the locals wcs. Anyway, do they really think Emily is ready? Of course she isn't, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be given a QWC.
We have no mens' ITF tournaments. We have 1 womens' 25k. The situation is getting worse and worse (we used to have a couple more of these). Going a step below the ITF, we used to have about 8 prizemoney tournaments. Now we have 2, maybe 3?
They had better offer some NZer a MD WC. Sacha doesn't count anymore. Maybe Westbury will get one? I wish Leanne decided to come back. She just showed that with a bit of matchplay she could still play some really good tennis.
I'm fed up with the whole situation. I wish I had the power to change things.
