I guess this is a rhetorical question. There was a big difference.
Of course it was an advantage for Julia to play on clay.
In the first set Julia was dominating pretty clearly due to the lower pace and also had a free point on nearly every second serve of Mladenovic which was pretty weak.
Due to her illness Julia got visibly weaker during the second set but was showing her fighting spirit and pulled it through in the end - not without the friendly help of Mladenovic who made some horrible Ues then. She wouldn`t have survived a third set.
Beside the surface Julia also seemed to handle the pressure better to play for her country in this match. She was the much more experienced player, an impression that you can not have very often with Julia.

Yes, sometimes I think that watching Julia play is not for the faint of heart! But it was certainly a great win for Germany and Julia personally and hopefully will provide her with confidence going forward.

Given the field, there were no easy opponents. I guess it could have been worse.

On a good day, I"ll give Julia a good chance to defeat Errani. Hopefully the good days arrives.

Re: Julia from Paris to Miami 2013

She should be able to absolutely attack Errani's second serves, but I thought the same thing about Mona and she struggled with it a lot. I don't know, if she hits more than she misses she has a shot. Just don't try to dropshot her.

Re: Julia from Paris to Miami 2013

good playing Julia can reach QF but could easily lose to Errani in 1st round as well.
I hope that she serves well against Errani and that she is able to attack Errani´s serve immediately, has to keep the rallies short but has to avoid too many stupid errors, not sure if she is able to do that.

Re: Julia from Paris to Miami 2013

Why has Dubai this year such a good entry list?
There are just good matches, so there exists no good draw. Julia has a chance againt Errani, i hope for the best

Lots of prize money (SF here earns you more than winning Paris) and probably big appearance fees as well.
