AUSTRALIAN SUMMER 2017 | Melbourne | def. Siniakova 36 63 64! Jankovic next

AUCKLAND MD
HOBART MD
AUSTRALIAN OPEN MD

Auckland MD:

(6)Pavlyuchenkova v Goerges
Broady v Kovinic
Q v Lepchenko
Gibbs v (3)Wozniacki

Pavly is not an easy first opponent, will be tough for Julia to defend her pts but she usually starts strong so I hope she can reach the QF here somehow, a match vs Wozniacki would be interesting again!

Doubles:

(1)Safarova/Strycova v Beck/Goerges
Maria/Melichar v Schuurs/Voracova

Bye Bye in 1st round if all goes the normal way!

Re: AUSTRALIAN SUMMER 2017 | 1st stop: Auckland

Was randomly awake to watch the end of this, Jule beat Pavs 3 & 4. What I saw was pretty good except for the returns, but she evened it out with great serves. Looked pretty good off the ground, too.

OH No! Her nose is running and she sounds like she has a cold. She seems to have caught her annual airplane cold. :sob:
But nothing to wory, not much running in her next match against Broady.

But well done today. I'm not sure how to rate the win tho, as Pavs seems to get bigger and bigger and somehow stopped moving completely.

She better doesn't play doubles today. Good match and great serve. She must like Auckland. Last year she was promising too and than came the rest of the season.

She's blowing her nose all year round. Immune system issues I guess. I'm sure she's used to it, although it's far from ideal. Yes, I feel like she likes playing in Auckland for some reason. Will be tough to defend the points but at least she has an opportunity here in the next round against Broady.

Re: AUSTRALIAN SUMMER 2017 | 1st stop: Auckland

Julia beat Broady 5 and 4! It's great to see her start the year off well again, her play looks very comfortable and measured. The scoreline makes the match look closer than it was. Most of Braody service games were close and only her serve bailed her out, whereas most of Julia's service games were quick and easy. Also Julia won almost every point that went to a rally. She lost her serve while serving for the first set with two double faults in a row but otherwise everything was steady.

Really nice from Frau Görges!
I really hoped for a QF here and she did not disappoint me, nice surprise actually instead as beating Pavlyuchenkova and then Broady on the same day is sth which you can´t always expect from Julia!

Draw is not great unfortunatly with Wozniacki next but I hope she can show a good match and keep it close, Julia surely likes playing against her but I still don´t know expect her to win it on hardcourt, good luck!!

Re: AUSTRALIAN SUMMER 2017 | 1st stop: Auckland

Julia into Auckland QF !

Excellent wins (both in straight sets) against Pav and servebot Broady

I was so happy to see that her serve is on. Such a strong weapon and a big help

Also Julia looks focused and motivated (as always in New Zealand and Australia )

Julia will be happy to see that her favourite opponent Caroline is next

Serena: "We have great personalities like Jelena (Jankovic) on the tour."
Jelena: "If I had to pick someone after me, I'd pick Serena."

Good Luck

Julia def Caro

1-6 0-3 double break down, missing everything, doublefaulting ->
1-6 6-3 5-1 up, hitting great winners ->
6-4 started missing serves, a few errors and doublefaults but made two good serves in the last two points. Finished with a Julia ace up the T on the ad side.

The one time I expect nothing from Jule, she plays both the worst and best tennis of her career within the same match. The way she played from 1-6 0-3* down was breathtaking. Winners galore

Re: AUSTRALIAN SUMMER 2017 | 1st stop: Auckland

That will go down as the most memorable match of her career for me, just incredible. How many times have we seen her start out so well and and then mess it all up right at the finishing point, glad she showed us the real fighter she and came back to win this match. I had tears of joy. Would also be so fitting for her to win Auckland.

Re: AUSTRALIAN SUMMER 2017 | 1st stop: Auckland

Julia

Awful start being 1-6 0-3 down but I think it helped her that she played Woz, she still can be confident in such situations as she knows that Wozniacki has big trouble with her game in general.
1-6 0-3 to 1-6 6-3 5-1 is just amazing still, really peaked in that situation before it all got a bit closer again in the end but that´s nothing unusual, good thing is that she was able to serve it out at *5-4 then, really good win and two SFs in a row now for Julia after she ended the season with the Moscow SF before.

Konjuh next, totally different match and it will be a tough one also, Konjuh is slowly getting more consistent and it will be hard to beat her but she struggles here and there with her 2nd serve, Julia herself has to serve well, try to be aggressive herself without making too many UEs but won´t be too disappointing, if she loses that one, good luck!!

What a nice win for Julia, especially from that position.
