There are many reasons why Petra's subforum is so inactive
1) First, as everyone knows, Petra's results are so unpredictable that it's a waste of time discussing about her opponents, her matches, her prospects of winning a tournament( which basically form the majority of discussions across all players fora). Her 2015 season has been pretty mediocre. I know she won three tournaments yada yada. And I know 2013 was even worse but in 2013 the top players were really "top" players, if you know what I mean. It didn't feel like Petra blew away many chances to win tournaments( except Wimbledon ofcourse). This year she was gifted with easiest draws possible in almost all tournaments and she regularly bombed out in 1st or 2nd round. Of 16 or 17 tournaments she entered this year, she made semifinals in just 4 of them. FRIGGING FOUR.
And she was a top 4 player almost the entire season
. Now when your favorite player loses in the first rounds in more than 75% of the tournaments she enters, what do you expect her fans to discuss ? I mean what do you want to discuss about Petra's prospects against Brengle ? Or Garcia ? These are the kind of opponents she is supposed to beat half asleep and when she reaches QF's or SF's , things get more interesting where fans tend to discuss more. It's the same in GM too. Just compare the number of replies a top player's first or second round match gets compared to her QF or SF match. In Petra's case those SF's happened just 4 or 5 times in almost 12 months.
2) For some one who is a multi slam winner, Petra has a very mediocre fan base from her country. Czech Republic has such a rich tennis history, you would think, Petra was a national heroine there who has some die hard fans. But Nada. Except for one who shall not be named (
), majority of Petra's fans here are from different countries and cultures. Nothing apart from tennis connects Petra and her fans here. Unless you are a superstar like Sharapova, fans from your own country form the most integral part of your fan base.
3) Petra's Greta Garbo like private life doesn't help either. We know nothing about her. I don't know how pervasive Czech media is , but we rarely hear anything about her, her goals, her fitness, her explanations for her losses except when she releases an official statement. Sometimes I wonder if she is treated as a b-list celeb in her own country.Or may be we don't have enough Czech posters to share such info with us. I mean, she had her shoulder treated in that match against Errani but till now we have no clue what's the issue was. Her shoulder did seem like an issue given how slow her serves were.We still don't know if that was an injury or anything else. On the other hand, whenever I want to know about Halep, I go to her forum where many posters from Romania share stuff about Simona which otherwise would go unnoticed.
4) Finally, in my case, I completely gave up on her this year after that Wimbledon loss. And I am sure it's the same with many here. These random tournament wins rarely excite me and even more so when she bullshits her way towards the title like she did in Sydney this year.
