In Petra Kvitova, a new star is born
Jul 2 | By Sandra Harwitt

Petra Kvitova is not the type of individual who seeks attention. She's kind of shy about her achievements.

But after defeating Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday for the Wimbledon title, she can't escape being famous.

"I'm so tired," Kvitova told about 10 journalists receiving some extra time with the champion after she did her main news conference and TV interviews. "I know it will change. I don't know what it will be [like] in [her native] Czech Republic."

When asked if she ever had a desire to be famous, the 21-year-old struggled to answer the question.
"I mean, it's part of being a tennis player, being famous," she eventually said. "So when I won Wimbledon, I had to agree [with it]."

One sign of that fame is being added to the Wimbledon Wall of Champions, which is located within the inner sanctum of the All England Club. The new champion's name -- clear and bold in gold lettering -- is put in its rightful spot even before the trophy ceremony on Centre Court is concluded.

Kvitova was able to watch the procedure when it was shown on the Centre Court scoreboard. Whether she's ready or not, Kvitova knew it was just another sign of her burgeoning stardom.

"When I was sitting on the court after the match I saw it [happening] on the TV," Kvitova said. "It was strange."

Worried now
Don't be. I don't want to sound like a dick here, but people really need to more skeptical with everything that comes out of the Czech Republic when it comes to Petra. There's quite a few people there who have been saying a lot of things that turned out to not be true/overly dramatic etc.

Stick to official announcements from her management team. Do you really think she would pondering entering RG in just a few weeks time if there was a 1/3 chance her career is over? :)

Hi, everyone, one of the rare times I post in Petra's forum, did it a couple of times a long time ago. Anyway, I like Petra, I wish her a speedy recovery and a swift return to tennis courts. Now, I'm sure you guys who follow Petra more closely probably know better than me, but just mathematically speaking, if she has a 5% chance of a tendon in her arm bursting, and she injured 7 of them, it doesn't mean there is a 35% chance that one of them will burst. Those are unrelated events, you cannot simply add those percentages together. Yes, the chance is probably higher than 5% (I'm not a mathematician, this is just pure logic), but it's definitely not 35%. So, from a probability point of view (not medically speaking), she shouldn't have such a high chance of not being able to recover based solely on that particular problem with the injured tendons  Just my 2 (hopefully reassuring) cents :)

30% chance to the nearest percentile of at least one of 7 independent events each a 5% chance happening.

But we shouldn't really be taking the figures literally.

Did the doc say what time period he was talking about for the tendon to remain intact? Lifetime, tennis career, match? The first, hopefully.

Ahh Caro! :worship: She's truly sweet.

Not sounding like PK is going to be back for clay but she shouldn't rush this. I DO think she will be back this year though, despite all the scary protestations coming our about her recovery and tendons bursting, etc.,

The injury she has, is it recurring ? I mean, let's say she starts playing at a professional level again. Do we have to worry that the injury might surface again ? Or is it like, once it's healed it won't bother her again ?
