Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

Thanks Paulmara

I didn't read this article, or any of the articles that you guys told me I should read, even stating one sounded like stuff I wrote in the past about Petra's problems (USA Today for example, according to Artic Moose or Tennis addict), etc..

Saying all that: I think Petra should just concentrate on her game and winning for the next two years or so. The relationships will come.

As Jack said: Hopefully we have a renewed, mature Petra who wants none of this for the time being.

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

I read the article via Google Translate, and picked out the choice quote that I have put in my signature. It was a fun read. I think she has a lot more comfort and wicked humor in Czech.

"I really have friends on the tour, and I'm really happy for it. ...I remember when I was young and someone told my father that I'm too nice for tennis. So I'm just glad that I can be nice off the court and fighting on the court." — Petra Kvitova, May 8, 2005

P. Kvitova def. S. Williams 6-2, 6-3

Yeah, her coach had said in an interview that her personal life was affecting her on court results, and that it's better for her to be single

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

She arguably was in her worst shape and form before she hooked up with Stepanek though. To be fair, that was actually the time she started to improve her fitness.

physically, she started improving again, but Kotyza was saying that she was emotionally distracted...and looking back at some of her losses this yr...in particular her SF in Sydney against Pironkova...it makes sense...

Re: Petra Kvitova News and Articles

I wish Petra had a REAL confidence coach or advisor (doesn't matter what the Mental coach does) who could teach her to speak like a champion. Take your choice, Martina Nav, Pavel Slozil, etc.??

Of course, if she plays well/kicks peoples ass on the court, I wouldn't care (walk softly, but carry a big stick school of thought).

Listen to her speak (you have to read the article) about The upcoming US Open, being #1, and dealing with success after winning another Wimbledon.

You can tell Petra still doesn't openly embrace or covets being #1, and doesn't speak in definitive terms about the near future post Wimby, though certainly better than the past few years. Courtney Nygen and Ben Rothenberg mentioned this in their post Wimby podcast as well, while at Petra's press conference (though they loved how entertaining and charming Petra was in her press conference).

There post Wimby, Summer Hardcourt season podcast (#81) is also an interesting/good listen.

Who Cares/Good Riddance!!

Plus, I'm sure you can find out, read out about that stuff if you really wanted to.

Speaking about lost causes, the past:

Man, if we could count up the amount of close calls/missed opportunities and woulda coulda shoulda's (French 2011 vs eventual Champion Li Na, French 2012 vs Champion Sharapova, Aussie 2012 vs Sharapova--with almost Pigeon Vika in waiting, 2013 Wimby vs Flipkens) in majors with our Petra, gasp!

Now, when you include the All Out Suckage of the past year in a half (Radek, no Radek), it can make you sick/your head spin.

Hell, we could even throw in, if Petra would have toughed it out, and found a way to beat Serena in 2010 or 2012 (they were close enough), she was practically guaranteed of winning Wimbledon.

Of course, lots of players can play the "Woulda Coulda Shoulda game. I know. However, Petra was playing well enough, had the skill, high levels to make those wins happen, especially if she would have gotten past her last opponents. Okay, maybe she would have still bombed out against Bartoli, even if she had beaten Flipkens (who she should have), cause she fell ill. Who knows? Petra just needs that belief and confidence again, to go along with her game and ability. Let's just hope, Petra can start a new series of memories, that can make us forget the recent past

And where's her full time male hitting partner?

PS: Just idle thoughts we've all had/said to ourselves during the summer respite before the Hard Court Tournaments/Real Action starts. So spare me any "No It Would Not Have Happened" "Realistic", Real World analysis/Comeuppance.

But it doesn't appear to be an injury, as many on GM expected Petra to pull out, as other top ranked players.

It's probably just a glut in the schedule?

It's funny. Cause it seems every year Petra's scheduled to play Stanford, and she never does.

She never plays Stanford, but played the now-defunct San Diego event instead. Because SD is not now in play, the fallout would be to the advantage of Stanford, for Lisicki, for one, did the same thing. Unfortunately, Petra has withdrawn. Was looking forward to her playing with the Sisters and Azarenka, hoping for a semi amongst them.

I guess it's for the best. Playing 4 tourneys in the USOS is a bit of a stretch, given that she has or had a suspect hammy and intends to play New Haven. So, one tourney had to bite the dust and Stanford is left out. Stanford deserves better from the Tour, for the locals come out every year. What can one say. ...

Makes sense. Stanford, Montreal, Cincy & New Haven in a row is too much.

Most players would probably have dropped NH instead but she likes the event too much I guess.
