Re: Watch out for Petra Kvitova

Put this back into GM, pleasee. It's been there for 3 years so we have to keep up the tradition

I still haven't really realized what happened today If Kveta wins in doubles this goes down as one of the best days in my life

Re: Watch out for Petra Kvitova

Considering today's events, this thread has legendary status now.

If Maria had to lose, at least it was to someone like Petra. Seems like a very sweet girl... good for her.

The average speed of Petra's shots was close to 80mph
Ten mph more than Masha's shots

I can't even think of any former top-tenner in the last 5 years who was a mindless ballbasher. Pierce, Davenport, Mauresmo, Clijsters, Capriati, Myskina, Seles, Dementieva, Petrova, Zvonareva... Who?
Even Vaidisova doesn't fall into this category.

As for true mindless ballbashers such as Sprem, Na Li, Rezai, Mirza, guess what? They have never reached Top-10.

And Vaidisova is certainly comes awfully close to qualifying as an MBB in my book.

Re: Watch out for Petra Kvitova

No surprise Aaron made such a stupid comment. Petra won Wimbledon and TF rejoiced.

Congrats on your Petra Fact Finding on TF David.

I discovered her last year, during Wimbledon and followed her and was a fan since. I kept telling everyone that would listen (like Oracene, Lol) that she was the future of WTA tennis and would win Wimbledon this year.

I'm not sure if you knew that three years ago. Cause of course I had the benefit of seeing her two years later than you. But I'm glad/it's good to know, we all have good taste in locating excellent tennis players. Lol.

I wanted to add to your near 80mph avg ground stroke quote. Mary Joe Fernandez, said on ESPN, that Petra hit a 93mph 2nd serve forehand return off of Masha in the 2nd set (I think they were tied 2-2, Deuce at the time).

Wow!!

Re: Watch out for Petra Kvitova

i noticed the stats during final of a rare category, the net clearance, Petra was averaging 48cm and Maria was 71cm, stunning to me of how Petra was able to control the ball

Re: Watch out for Petra Kvitova

Kvitova has champion's mind. That is what separates her from the peasants. She comes to win and she rarely chokes or shows nerves. That's why she broke through this year in style. I predict around 12-14 grand slam titles for her when all said and done. She is a winner by nature, you can see the ruthlessness in her eyes when she plays. The Wimbledon victory is just a beginning. Finally we can witness someone with actual talent take over the sport.

Re: Watch out for Petra Kvitova

I totally agree with you Graftard, the reason is because not only is she very young but she knows how to win big moment matches and know how to deal with the pressure better......to be honest i thought Caro was gonna handle the pressure better and even win a slam after her run in US open 2009 after she lost to kim in the finals but now she still needs to do more improvements on how to win bigger matches such as the slams for example and not to burn out or even choke on big occasions(slams in meaning)......but back to Petra, she will win more slams than the other youngsters Caro, vika, pav, alisa, etc because like you said she rarely shows any emotions or even the sign of choking in pressured moments.....thats what makes her sooooo talented and more likely to be watched.....the way she beat Big Masha in the finals was one of the most impressive wins ive EVER seen from any player because she stick to her strong mentality and her game plan to pretty much stay aggressive but keep Masha guessing and pin her behind the baseline the whole match....even Nick Bolletieri was very impressed with Petra

I hope they will move it back. I do not think it will die here but it is a legendary thread for sure.

I personally petition for moving it back to GM if PK wins another Slam. Considering that I am hoping for another one next year, it may not be far away!!
