Hopefully she skips Sydney( or plays just one or two matches and withdraw) and just commits herself to Hopman cup fully and prepares herself for the 1st slam which she has pretty good chances to win.
So Petra will commence 2017 at the Hopman Cup, then Sydney. Last time she started her season that way was 2015, where she went on to win the premier title in Sydney! Let's hope the leg is okay...
interesting...wonder if she'll then cut out Stuttgart...especially considering both are fast clay courts...would be weird if she plays 4 weeks in a row
"I am so disappointed to announce that I will be unable to play at the Hopman Cup. The results of an MRI have confirmed that my foot is healing but not as quickly as we would have liked. The Hopman Cup is a fantastic event and I'm sorry I won't be able to represent my country in front of the great fans in Perth."
So, Roland Garros is a week away and Petra is on the entry list. What do you guys think? Do you think she will play and do you want her to play? I feel like it's a bit premature but I'm sure Petra knows what she's doing
Not surprising, for Petra loves the greens of the Yale University College campus, will play this event every year 'til she retires, save for injury, and New Haven is a beautiful court for tennis, only lacking significant crowds, unfortunately.
I wish she would consider playing Stanford, as well, but the stadium is no where near as beautiful. Yet, the attendance has always been good-to-great. I hope she considers same at some point.
Hopefully she won't play Eastbourne after winning Birmingham (though if she lost there, that would take away pressure and hoopla of winning Birmingham).
Rest Petra!!
And I hate the fact she always decides to play New Haven (cause she loves their impressive tournament director so much), instead of resting and concentrating on US Open.
Not sure which feed you guys got and the announcers?
I got Bein Sports on delay. Had to watch live Russian Feed.
But why is it every time Petra's playing well, the dumb announcers always have to say "Petra's improved on her volley's lately (or moves well on grass, has variety, etc.) as if it's a work in progress"!?
WTF!? Have they not watched Petra win Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, as well as display her variety during various tournaments through out the years when playing well and confident!?
i'm assuming she's gonna play Cincy too...but since we all know that there's no way she's missing NH...maybe she can just incur the penalty and skip Cincy...playing 3 weeks in a row would be too much...and i know this is WAY looking ahead...but w/ Serena gone this year, i think Petra has a really good shot at the USO after doing well there after getting to the 2nd week the last 2 yrs
She said in an article that she's due to play Rogers Cup, Cincy and New Haven, so I doubt she'll play Stanford as well.
She withdrew from Cincy last year, so she may have to play this year or get a zero pointer again.
Also, I believe she is classified as a year end top ten player due to Serena exercising her right to decline this obligation. This involves certain commitments, including playing most P5 tournaments, but in return she can get late wildcards anywhere she wants.
