Hlavackova and Pous Tio continued their good form by digging deep to defeat the top seeds. Great week for Andrea

Robson and Zheng did so well despite the lack of points which they had

It was a lob sided match but Nara continues her incredible form in the tournament and is through to her second final here in Marbella. Brilliant of Beatriz who will be looking for doubles title number 2 here in Marbella after being crowned doubles queen in Acapulco- really feeling comfortable on the clay.

Shame for Sabine and Timea, they even had chances to win the match

It was a close match and a fantastic way to finish off the doubles tournament here in Marbella but there would only be one winner. Kurumi Nara has somehow found her form here in ART after a dismal four weeks on tour but she has found her feet and produced some excellent tennis throughout the tournament. With one title already under her belt, will she go on and get the singles title here too? Andrea will surely have something to say about that, she played a good match here today and Laura was a fantastic partner but a lack of doubles technique let them down today, going for a little too much on the most crucial points. Beatriz has had a great tournament and certainly gave the Spanish crowd something to cheer for. Congrats Kurumi and Beatriz.

Nara

Kurumi Nara (JPN) def. Andrea Hlavackova (CZE)
6-3 3-6 7-5

In a long and anticipated final that we all expected and aspired to see, Kurumi Nara defied the odds to win her first title here on the ART tour, defeating her Czech opponent in three sets, in just under two and a half hours worth of play. There were some magnificent rallies being played from the back of the baseline with each player showing why they deserved to be in the final. It was Kurumi who took the iniative first, breaking Andrea twice in the first set which gave the immediate advantage and the first set in just under and hour. When Kurumi broke again at the beginning of the second set, one might have been mistaken for assuming this would be a marathon as Kurumi looked as though she would have the match and the title all too quickly. But Andrea showed us her classic fighting spirit and eventually played some great backhand crosscourt winners which gave her winner/unforced error ratio to 14 to 10. Andrea was now playing a lot better tennis, Kurumi eventually gave in, allowing the Czech to also break her twice, levelling the match at 1 set all. The last set saw some of the best tennis of the tournament yet and both players would not give in, hitting jaw-dropping winners and defending their baseline incredibly well. At 5-4 Kurumi had the chance for 2 match points at 40-15 on Andrea's serve but it was not enough as Andrea fought back to duece, eventually winning a game that lasted nearly 15 minutes. This seemed to take it's toll on Andrea and she only managed to win 4 more points, Kurumi had stayed consistent and resiliant enough to win the title and be crowned Marbella Queen. Commisserations to Andrea who has had a fantastic tournament- 2 runner up finishes, some of her best results for a while. But congratulations to Kurumi Nara who is proving dangerous here on the clay courts and is one to look out for in season 2 !!
