Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

Let's hope that time off puts the injuries behind her. First up will be the Rogers Cup, where she will not be seeded.

She'll probably draw Sharapova first match

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

She seems to have a lot of events lined up, playing 3 consecutive weeks before the US Open. I hope she is able to stay healthy competing that much. I think the post-US Open events will be hear chance to shine, so hopefully she won't have to pull out of those hurt.

she's only played a few matches the last two months. If healthy, she should be able to handle her pre- US Open schedule. And if she does well she can always pull out of one of the prep tournaments

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

I would prefer Stanford over New Haven, but I guess she wants more time off after Wimbledon to heal injuries and do practices for 2nd part of the season.
I have a feeling she will be back in form for US Open Series.

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

I'd say there's a good chance she shows some solid play in the upcoming events.

These 2 slams were the result of massive pressure that she must've felt as much as (if not more than) the lingering injuries, since even early in the season her coach was saying how that particular part of the calendar will be in their focus for this year. No wonder that she succumbed, given that she's known to put a ton of pressure onto herself, which might be a good thing sometimes, but not when it really takes over everything.

Anyway, looking forward to the weeks to come. Fingers crossed that her health issues have been taken care of.

Mirjana in big danger of not being seeded at USO: she's down to #29 in this morning's rankings, and could drop a couple more spots this week

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

Serena wont play so she can go low as #33 to be seeded.
But yes, only two tournaments where she can grab point before Open seedings, and two big ones: Toronto and Cincy.

What do you expect from her in the rest of the year? My hopes are she goes back to January-March level.
There are some tournaments with really fast and well suited surfaces for her game such as Cincinnati, Quebec, Wuhan, Beijing.
Hope she bring her A game back.

Yeah, those are my thoughts as well. If some pressure ever existed, after low performances in RG and Wimbledon, it is surely now behind her and nobody expects anything from Miki. So just hope she is injury free, regrouped after all tough loses and that she will bring her January-March level into rest of the year! I think she can do it! It was difficult to expect from her to maintain such high level through all the year, but after bad part of middle season, it is very possible now! Good luck Miki!

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

^ Pretty much my thoughts.

Pressure is now off, no one will really expect her to do something awesome, so she might just come up with something of the sort.

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

Probably best if she is not seeded or expected to do anything.

She's a delightful "momentum performer," as she proved during the 2014 US Open run, followed by superb Quebec titles. (That was 3 years ago. Her last singles AND doubles titles.)

But she TOTALLY screwed-the-pooch as a seeded player at the two biggest, most obvious events this year.

Brain freeze.

Not a champion mentality.

It wasn't even mere failure, it was GHASTLY failure.

Cagla B? Witthoft?

Sorry.

That crap was not even acceptable, from any planet. Miki chokes herself before she goes on the court. Heartbreaking.

Most unfortunate, because her game is so crisp and so powerful and so massive, but the woman simply hasn't got a sporting killer-instinct brain.

Certainly she could achieve another decent result, this year. But don't get too hopeful.

When she was totally in position to achieve historical results, and to assert her power, she flopped OUTRAGEOUSLY.

I defy any of the other longtime fans here to tell me that her R1 Wimbledon loss/implosion was anything beyond insane/embarrassing. Career-crushing.

I love Miki a lot, but she's toast.

With her massive, powerful, buxom game, there was no excuse whatsoever for her French and Wimbledon cesspool-performances.

None.

I doubt she'll win many rounds the rest of this year.

Mentally she's got issues, in terms of how to win matches, and doesn't even know how to win a first round match at Wimbledon with match points. Impossible.

Love Miki so much, but thumbs down. Pressure crushes her, and champs thrive on pressure.

Yuk.

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

Yes, it was a horrendous choke.

There is absolutely no excuse that could be made for it.

And it was done on the biggest of stages.

But, she has put bad chokes behind her many times.

It is possible she can do it again.

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

Miki is a player of extremes.

Following her, you get great joy and excitement, combined with terrible disappointment and heartbreak. There's hardly any middle ground.

And that's why we follow her (our madness and masochism aside), cause you can blame Miki for a lot of things, but being boring is not one of them

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

Being seeded didn't exactly do anything good for her at RG or Wimbledon. Look down the rankings after 33 and tell me a player you would be confident she would beat. Jankovic perhaps ? That's about it of the direct entries.

Re: Mirjana's 2017 American Swing

Im expecting good US Open Series.
Would say she's gonna win few matches.

Not playing Stanford/Washington indicates she has taken more time to get ready.
