I've come to like the idea of her playing Hopman Cup. At least she'll get a few matches under her belt and with the team aspect, win or lose, it won't be totally on her. Relatively low pressure by her standards, maybe a good way to get this going.
Watched her single play, Kiki not in form and Petko played not bad, improved movement and consistency. But who knows how long her form can last Sorry I cannot be more optimistic. Anyway it's good to see her start the season with a win
Stats according to their website: Petko 10/15, Kiki 15/34. So it seems that Kiki was indeed quite horrible but from that very short highlight video she looked good. But I think that match against Belinda will be more telling.
Mh, week started well with that convincing win against Kiki but the last two matches were not really good at all. Oh well, it was the Hopman Cup, let's see what she can do in Hobart. Draw isn't great though:
2017 Hobart International
(4)Alison Riske (USA) v (wc)Lizette Cabrera (AUS)
(wc)Francesca Schiavone (ITA) v Q/LL
Q/LL v Naomi Osaka (JPN) Andrea Petkovic (GER) v (5)Misaki Doi (JPN)
I took two positive aspects out of that match, though:
1. She didn't destroy a single racket during the match.
2. Reminded me to not break one of my own rules again: "Don't stay up till 3 am for a tennis game!!" :smash: (I always regreded it)
There were like 1000 withdrawals in Hobart so the draw had to be changed. Andrea is now playing Osaka in her first round match, second round would be a Q/LL
Meaning: They have to try and find someone else who lost in R2 of qualifying, and who is still in Hobart - or who is prepared to come back. It's like New Haven last year. when Pliskova withdrew late, and then Tsurenko (who was supposed to replace her) couldn't play. Eventually they found Flipkens, who reached the QF. I don't think there's anyone as good as Flipkens left here though.
i know i sound like a bad person now
but i hoped Osaka is not 100% yet, or better said, i hoped she might not take a risk for the AO
and gonna pull out as well.
Qualifiers are not easy as well, because they are confident and are used to the conditions already.
But i hope she can win at least 1 round.
but wouldn´t it be a Q/LL in 2nd round as well?
so time to get in form Petko, and use this opportunity
