I think she has another chance to go deep here. The way some went on, you'd think she was still in a slump and not fairly recently out of a P5 tournament where she was a freak injury away from the final. She loves it here and is nicely under the radar.
Petko is No 28, she's always talking about her improvements and it's clay - Puig (No 62) is a must-win. Everything else would be ridiculous.
I'm looking forward to another great match against Angie.
I have to say it: I am worried
I know that Puig is a bad matchup for Andrea and Puig played a great match for sure, but Andrea was in complete control until 5-2. Serve worked well and she went for her shots. Then she completely collapsed again and choked the set away like in almost every set after Doha The things she said during her OCCs ("I'm useless" etc.) really are worrying. I hope that she can recover from this soon and get some confidence/belief ...
ALWAYS the same story. She did so well in Doha, was on her way to make a winnable P5 final and then an injury hits her. And even if it's just a small one it's enough to completely break her confidence.
Yeah, her mental state is indeed worrying. Her results haven't been that bad this year and she looked more relaxed during these matches but since this damn injury in Doha, she's a complete mess again mentally.
She carried her anger through the Barbs and Garcia matches. Today it was just enough with being patient and the volcano errupted.
I think it's funny, how dramatic everybody reacts. Last year, she played so much worse.
Yeah, she should have won those matches, but those were losses against tough opponents.
Fate is not on her side at the moment, but things will change again and she'll get the opponents, that make a change.
I don't think that would be of any help. Her biggest problem is currently her mental state - something a coach can barely influence. Changing the team again would just lead to more instability.
What really worries me is how much she's loosing control: crying on court is one thing but speaking out loudly her desperation ("I'm useless") is a new level.
She seems to be trapped in a vicious cycle where she is in fear of getting in fear of loosing or whatever. I guess there's something fundamental inside her that she needs to resolve - however, only reading biographies of artists will for sure not be of any help.
Andrea really played well which should be a positive thing for sure but it's just so sad she can't win one of these matches lately. A win against Halep would have been a huge confidence booster I think.
How many epic matches she had now in Fed Cup? She's just a great fighter. Hopefully she can transform that confidence she has at the moment into the Stuttgart tournament. Mladenovic's form isn't that great so maybe she can end her losing streak on WTA level here.
Andrea won 6-2 6-4 and will face Radwanska tomorrow. She looks quite tired here and also didn't sound very optimistic in her post-match interview but I hope she can play a good match at least.
