Good point. Depends on what you define as a "win". However, given that the match did not even take place, I think the WTA are right not to classify the walk over as a win - hence HTH 5-1 Maria

Titles (WTA & ITF): 23-13 Maria
Head-to-Head: 5-2 Maria - 4 of these matches were on hard court (Maria winning all 4).
One of Jelena's two victories was a walk-over (Rome Semi 2008). Last met in Tokyo in Sept 2009 - Maria was 5-2 up in the first when Jelena retired injured
Jankovic win/loss this year: 31/15
Maria win/loss this year: 38/9

On the above, you would have to say that Maria was the favourite. However, whilst Jelena has had a very poor season so far and has not won a tournament since Indian Wells 2010, her form has picked markedly during the North American hard court season and I would say that she was in with a shout.
Its also worth adding that Jelena won this tournament in 2009 beating Dinara Safina 6-4 6-2. On the way, she beat Elena Dementieva in the semi's 7-6 0-6 7-6, Sybille Bammer (who had beaten Serena in the 3rd round) in the quarters 6-0 6-3, Victoria Azarenka in the 3rd round 7-5 7-6, and Maria Kirilenko in the 2nd round 7-6 6-3. Hence, had a very good tournament in 2009.

Hope Bammer is enjoying her retirement. From recall, I think she remained a top 30 player almost to the end (only slipping down gradually in 2010) of her career (early 2011)

Re: Finals Sunday OOP

When will the Empress be gracing my screen? Is the women's final scheduled to be played after the doubles final?
