What has been your worst injury?

I'm currently recovering from a sprained ankle from rolling it on a fast indoor court. I was at the net and trying to reach a passing shot on my forehand side.

I had no idea how much a "sprained ankle" hurts. Thought I broke it.

I have no idea how any players can play on after an injury in a match.

Someone told me they shoot you up with stuff and you can prolong any pain for two hours? And with enough tape you can play the match.

Serena Williams. Maria Sharapova.

Wozniacki. Stosur. Jankovic. Bouchard. Halep. Muguruza.
Venus. Stephens. Cornet. Hampton. Bencic.
Seles. Henin. Davenport. Hingis. Clijsters.

None. Luckily. Just some wrist problems.

Re: What has been your worst injury?

i sprained my right ankle on court last year playing doubles, as i approached the net and my opponents hit the ball into the net.
three days later, i sprained my other ankle falling down the stairs.. and the pain that time was so much worse. couldn't walk for about two weeks.

i've also had shoulder inflammation in the past, so idk which ones worse imo.

Re: What has been your worst injury?

I've had so many injuries. Ankle problems, strained knee ligaments, strained stomach/abdominals serving in the warm up just two weeks ago.

Re: What has been your worst injury?

A tendinitis in a muscle in the thigh that kept me out for like 6 months

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

How bad was your sprain?? How did you train to come back to tennis and how long did it take?

Thank you. Just curious as I currently have a sprained ankle.

I'm currently battling Plantar Faciitis in my foot along with tendonitis in my hip. I'm 21, and I'm already battling chronic injuries.

Re: What has been your worst injury?

I had a knee injury that I played through for like a year until it healed itself, I also had a heel problem from growing up too fast that took away like 3 months, right now I'm resting my back for the second week because of some lower back pain.

The ankle I sprained on court was not near as bad as my other sprain. I was out for a total of three and a bit months, and I couldnt really train until both my ankles were strong enough and when I could sorta balance again. When i was able to train, I worked on split stepping the most considering even two months after when I tried coming back, I had so much trouble moving around the court, even while my ankles were taped and were supported by braces.
But overall it really depends on the severity of your sprain (and surely you wouldn't have done what I managed ).

Re: What has been your worst injury?

I've a question. Right now I have a slightly bad left shoulder. I hurt it last Wednesday during serve practice, but I don't get the feeling it was sudden. I think it was gradual. Anyway, it's not really sore most of the time but in some positions during movement I get this sudden ache - like a stabbing of pain except it feels more like an ache if that makes sense. I'm terribly afraid of it so at work I've been trying to use my right arm for everything and even haven't really written much .

I was silly 'cause when I noticed it hurt last Wednesday I decided I'd rest it for a few days. On Saturday, playing day it wasn't really better despite the rest but I just had a couple of painkillers (which worked at first but wore off) and carried on. Fast-forward to Monday and there's really no change. I hate that sudden ache I get in certain positions so I've really limited my range of movement for that shoulder. I'm a little worried TBH.

It's my own fault. I've never ever had any shoulder problems before, because I used to do curls with a 10kg weight at home and I think that kept my shoulder strong, but I've been neglecting that lately. I don't think it's coincidental.

It's annoying too 'cause despite believing I can play well, I also almos tnever win (and usually lose really badly) 'cause I'm a mental wreck, just to add insult to the injury .

At the moment I'm thinking wait a couple more days, then go see the Dr. but at this rate I'm not expecting any change. Looking back I idiotic to play with the bad shoulder but I have no experience with injuries.

If you have warming pads you could warm up the area and try stretches to identify where in those muscles the pain is coming from. You might also be able to figure out from gentle stretches if it is muscle, ligament, or joint that's the source of the random pain.

Once you nail it down, I suggest going to see a doctor. Ultimately they may tell you it's just a pull or a strain and to rest is for a while. But even knowing it is something small will give you the piece of mind and the rest-window to make sure it doesn't mess with your game from both a mental and a technical standpoint.

TT Doubles: 2014 W: Trnava w PinkTape. 2013 W: St Martin, Orlando, Sibenik, Charlottesville, Nantes-YEC all w Soliloque; Lexington w DJDVD.

Re: What has been your worst injury?

** Second degree right ankle sprain in HS, three weeks in crutches and boy did it hurt.

** Broken toes (toe vs furniture), I waited a couple days, taped them and played. Now they make a funny noise when I walk once in a while but I keep on playing.

** I have strained both Sartorius at different points of my tennis playing years, those are little bitches to heal but thankfully they've behaved in recent weeks.

Re: What has been your worst injury?

Just might be getting better. Not getting that jolting ache today as badly. Still will rest it for a couple more days and see how it is then. I'm still not comfortable using it a lot. Probably should skip playing this Saturday too and get back to lifting that weight to make it a bit stronger again .

Re: What has been your worst injury?

My worst injury was a right shoulder subluxation. I was playing a match and then I tried to hit an smash and it happened.
