Worst shots in your repertoire?

My serve can be shakey but that's down the list honestly. I'm a left-hander with 2HBH, and my worst shots are probably, in order:

1. Backhand volley (single-handed)
2. Backhand DTL
3. Forehand DTL
4. Forehand volley

I think there's hope for #3. I can hit them, just not that well from a neutral position. I certainly can't blast it like I can my up the middle or crosscourt shots. I think in time I'll be able to hit this pretty well though.

Definitely my serve. Even as a junior I had a mediocre serve for my height, but since my shoulder injury it's really declined. Still, I am working on it a lot.

I have played a few people who play tournaments still, and the lack of serve is really hurting me; they can usually win their own service games, and then I double fault my own away.

I also have trouble with short, low balls on my forehand.

Other than that, I am really happy about where my game is going. I had stagnated for so many years, but now I'm feeling so confident that I am considering entering some tournaments again...once my serve is a little better.

Backhand volley.
I can see my opponent's telegraphing the shot there knowing I will dump it in the net and BAM into the net I dump it.

Used to be second serve. My opponents would just slowly walk (upright, not even in return stance) towards the service line to hit the easy winner or move over after the double fault. It was extremely disheartening.

Now I pretend I am Serena on serve and somehow it actually works. While my serve is nothing special, you can no longer break me with your eyes closed.

It's so weird, I was a big tennis fan since I was a little kid but I only started playing regularly at 12 (I had played semi occasionally when I was 10 but it lasted just a few months as we had to move house and it wasn't a priority for a while) due to my parents wanting me to try other sports first, despite me always insisting on tennis

As a late starter it took me a long time to get comfortable and unfortunately I didn't have good coaching for many years and developed "homemade" groundstrokes :secret: this meant that until last year I never used the chopper grip (I think others call it the V Grip? Anyway, the grip you're supposed to use for a serve) and was serving with a forehand grip for 6 YEARS :hysteric: I wanted to do the proper serve grip for years but once I was comfortable I was too scared to change  so my serve was a massive weakness (and my second serve was the worst thing in existence), but it's now a pretty good strength - so long as I'm not nervous af which sadly I get in tournaments.

My backhand used to be good but..again...I was hitting it with a forehand grip  so when I changed to the proper backhand grip last year it was like learning how to play tennis again  after about 6 months of doing the proper technique now my backhand is getting close to where it was before. My CC backhand has improved immeasurably, although the DTL is tougher now.

Learning the proper grip for volleys, slice, serve, dropshots and the backhand has definitely been a challenge  but I'm getting there and I'm happy I have a good coach now who I trust and I'm doing the right things with. Ironically, my backhand volley is better than my forehand. My forehand is weighty but adding spin in the last couple of years has been tricky because sometimes I get caught trying to hit a topspin forehand but I do not always pronate the wrist, so it just flies long :p
