venus_rulez won today!
Somewhat closely contested match, level of play was club-like for the most part! We both found it hard to adjust to the surface... I have to step back more coz I'm used to clay.
We both wore blue to match the courts.
I broke venus_rulez in the opening game and felt pretty good, but before I knew it I was down 1-4. I was serving at 2-5 and was up 40-15 but he won 4 straight points to take the set! venus_rulez has a really nice spinning serve, and I found it hard to return with my craptastic backhand because I never ever bend my knees.
Second set was much better, I positioned myself better to return his serves, I served a bit better, and started striking the ball much better as opposed to into the net. We both hit some nice dropshots as well. All games went on serve until I broke for a 4-3 lead and I eventually closed the set out 6-4.
Third set was probably the best set of tennis in the match as we had adjusted even more (though it's still so weird thinking about it). I went down a break early and was very close to being down 0-3, but luckily I broke back with some nice forehands and everything went on serve until I was serving to stay in the match at 5-6, and I swear he hit some lucky shots!
To bring up two MPs, he hit a FH DTL off his frame and judging by the loop I thought it was going out but it ended up catching the line! The highlight of this set for me was hitting a backhand top spin lob over him while he was at the net.
The courts at Melbourne Park are pretty much like a slow hard court..... It's pretty fun, definitely would like to play more on it, but at $28 an hour, I'd think again.
