Awesome! Congrats to your friend. It was a fantastic tournament and it was really great that international competitors like your friend travelled to Sydney for it. I played a guy from Thailand and a friend of mine played a visiting American player, so it really felt like an international event. I had the best time (helped of course by getting a good result! )

Re: Glta

Now I have to pick between Beechwood OH and St Mary's PA for that weekend for a USTA tournament. Hotels for the Beechwood one I think are cheaper, so there's that.

TT Singles: 2014 SF: Bogota, New Braunfels. 2013 F: Las Vegas, SF: Orlando, Sibenik.
TT Doubles: 2014 W: Trnava w PinkTape. 2013 W: St Martin, Orlando, Sibenik, Charlottesville, Nantes-YEC all w Soliloque; Lexington w DJDVD.

Re: Glta

This weekend was the GLTA Dublin Open. We were really lucky on having sunny days, and I won my first match in B singles (1st time I was playing B, tho ) and we were runner-ups in C doubles losing 7/6(7) 6/7(8) 13/11 in the champ tie-break after saving like 4/5 match points in the second set

Pic with the trophy

Even that you finish really wrecked I love these tournaments. Thinking in playing London and Manchester this year as well

Re: Glta

I'd like to play a couple GLTA tournaments this year, espacially as we are three gay players in our regular team. But I feel the tournaments are incredibly pricy, aren't they? Checked two of them and each costs 75€ for one competition and 90€ if you play doubles. Quite a lot.

Re: Glta

i don't know how much that is in AUD, but the Sydney tournament was fairly pricey too. However I thought it was good value though, especially this year playing at Sydney Olympic Park where the Sydney WTA and ATP tournaments are played - I was happy to pay that much to play at a world class venue!

What are the venues like where you're thinking of going?

75 EUR according to google would be 102 AUD. 90 EUR are 122 AUD.

I was thinking of going to Hamburg, maybe Amsterdam, too. I live in the south of Germany and have heard many good things about Hamburg. Would like to combine sightseeing and playing, and one of my teammates apparently also got relatives there, so accomodation wouldn't add any further costs. I don't think the tournament is played at the site of the ATP event though. However, I did notice that quite a lot of GLTA events actually take place at pro facilities. That's cool.
What do other people think about the entry fees? Sounds like you enjoyed your experience though.

Regular tournaments usually cost about 20-30 EUR (28 EUR would be 38 AUD) so I do think it's quite a big difference.

Re: Glta

Oh ok. In Australia, regular tournaments would be about 40 EUR and GLTA is about 65 EUR so not so big a difference. But I would've spent at least 500AUD all together including travel and accommodation for this year's tournament and I still think it was worth it It was a great weekend - great tennis and I played with my partner and another good friend so it was a real treat
